ERIC BERGMANN
January 22, 1948 – February 8, 2025
Deeply loved and cherished, Eric Bergmann peacefully went to be with his Heavenly Father and Saviour on February 8, 2025.
Left to mourn and cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Lorraine, and their children Karen Schroeder (Chris) and their children Micah, Abigail, Joel and Jordan; Richard Bergmann (Diane) and their children Kayla (Micah), Nathan, and Matthew; Janice Schmidtke (Jonathan) and their children Aaron, Elise, and Cora; and Elaine Johnson (Neil) and their children Breanna, Sophie, Peyton, Scarlett, and Maddox. Eric will be lovingly remembered as a faithful husband, loving and generous father, caring Papa, and loyal brother, uncle, and friend.
On January 22, 1948, Eric was born to Alfred and Justina Bergmann of Glenlea, Manitoba. It was on the family farm in Glenlea where he grew up, worked with his brothers and lived for 76 years. Eric loved the seasons of farming and worked tirelessly with seeding in spring, harvest in summer, field work in fall, and the dairy and hogs all year round. His hobbies on the farm were riding horses, giving sleigh rides, bird feeding & watching, and going on drives to look at the fields and scenery. Eric loved nature and had a deep appreciation for God’s creation. He cherished the relationships he built with his siblings, extended family, and friends on the farm.
Faith was the cornerstone of Eric’s life. He accepted Jesus into his life at an early age and was baptized in his teens. Eric married Lorraine Anne Lepp on June 17th, 1972 and together, they established a home where faith was a priority and foundation. Family devotions around the breakfast table were a part of their daily routine and they led by example the importance of caring, helping others, and showing hospitality. Eric was a humble man, often working, serving, and giving in the background. Music was important to him and he regretted not learning how to play an instrument but he loved to sing. Eric sang in the choir for many years and loved singing in a men’s quartet with friends. Music spoke to him deeply and the Truth in the words in worship songs and hymns brought him peace. He modeled what it means to place your trust in God in all circumstances.
Eric worked hard and selflessly to build a life for his family. He saved up and regularly planned family vacations and holidays, whether it was camping and road trips when the kids were young, yearly summers at a cabin, or hot destinations in more recent years. He continued to dream of taking his family away together on holidays. Eric was a steady rock in his family, always there when you needed something fixed, solved, picked up, or delivered. His children’s homes have his loving touch in them in one renovation project or another. He loved to host family and friends around their large dining room table and try out new recipes. He was the best storyteller and often shared what he was learning or reading. Eric loved and cherished each of his grandkids deeply. He was a cheerleader in all their different activities and prayed that they would continue to grow in their faith.
In 2020, Eric was diagnosed with cancer and later pulmonary fibrosis. Eric fought hard and made every attempt to stay involved in the lives of family, despite being unwell. Eric is now cancer free, without any pain and suffering in the presence of His Saviour. What he believed his entire life in faith has now been made sight.
As a family, we are thankful for all the support we have received from our extended and church families, friends, and for all the loving care he was given by all his health care providers. He will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 22, 2025, Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, 2405 Mcgillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, with a luncheon to follow. A private interment will take place prior to the service.
The service is livestreamed, click this link to view.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eric’s memory to Canadian Food Grains Bank or Cancer Care Manitoba.
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
