Elizabeth (Betty) Harnett
1933-2025
SOUTH BRANCH, NB – Elizabeth « Betty » Ruth
Harnett 91, of South Branch passed away peacefully at the Rexton Lions
Nursing Home on Monday, January 27, 2025 with her daughter Vicki by
her side. Born in South Branch, she was the youngest
daughter of the late Taylor Warren and late Edith (Girvan)
Warren.
Betty went to a one room school in South Branch where she met
her husband to be David Harnett. Betty and David lived
happily together in South Branch until 2021, when they both went to
live in their new home at the Rexton Lions Nursing Home.
Betty (in her caring way) went first to make it easier for David to
adjust when he was able to join her a month later.
Betty’s family would like to express their appreciation for
all the love and care given to both their mother and father.
Betty enjoyed her activity times and participated in
all.
Betty was loved by all because of her good nature and sense
of humor and fun. Betty loved to square dance and started out at a
young age going with her older brother and sister to house party fund
raisers for the one room schools. She later attended many
with David and enjoyed working the door at Frankie’s Dance
Hall in Mundleville while David played music. She was very
supportive of David’s gift of music and attended many
benefit and jamboree shows, house parties, camping at blue grass
festivals and the Wilf Carter tribute shows in Canning,
NS.
Betty was a strong person, a hard worker, a loving and
supportive mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and
community fundraiser organizer, by teaching us all honesty and caring
for others as she did herself, which was her whole life. She
lovingly took care of her mother-in-law, Laura (Whelan) Harnett who
lived at their home for 38 years.
Betty was a loving mother and will be sadly missed by her
four children, Dale Harnett (Debbie) of South Branch, Kenny Harnett
(Joanne) of South Branch, Vicki Harnett (Ricki) of Moncton, Sonny
Harnett (Mary) of Mundleville; three grandchildren, Robbie (Tracey),
Laura Anne (Tim), Adam; two great grandchildren, Erica (Kevin) and
Brett.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
David Elroy Harnett; two sisters, Irma, Jean; two brothers, Emerson,
Graham and one grandson, Justin.
Visitation will be held at Thompson’s Funeral Home
in Richibucto on Friday from 7-9 pm, Saturday 9:00 am until time of
the service. A celebration of Betty’s life will be
held on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at 11:00
am at Thompson’s Funeral Home Chapel, Richibucto, officiated
by Pastor Raymond Vautour.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the
Rexton Lions Nursing Home or the cemetery funds of St.
John’s United Church or St. Peter’s Catholic
Church.
