It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend Elinor Blanche Mix on December 24, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Elinor was born in Edmonton, Alberta on October 1, 1943, to Stanley and Edna Pollard.
Elinor was predeceased by her husband Dr. Lawrence Mix in 2015, and her parents Stanley and Edna. Elinor is survived by her children, Kendall and wife Debbie, and son Geoff Mix and brother Neil Pollard; grandchildren Will Mix, Graham Mix and wife Casey, and Ryanne Mix. Grandma was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and was always happy to tell her friends about their accomplishments.
Elinor grew up in the Highlands in Edmonton. She attended Eastglen High School, Class of 1961. In her youth Elinor spent her summers in Jasper at the family cottage at Lake Edith. Elinor and Larry married on October 4, 1963, and remained in Edmonton until 1974 after Larry graduated from the University of Alberta School of Medicine. Larry and Elinor moved to Kelowna, BC, in 1974, and then to Liverpool, England, in 1976 for Larry’s fellowship in pediatric urology. They had so many adventures living in the UK! After living in England for a year, they came back to Edmonton in 1977. In retirement Larry and Elinor moved to Vancouver Island in 2005 to Qualicum Beach, and then to Victoria in 2015.
Elinor and Larry loved to travel. They had the great fortune to travel to the Caribbean including numerous sailing trips, Scandinavia, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. They loved travelling to Europe and were well versed in European history.
Elinor enjoyed quilting and had an amazing quilting room in her home. She loved getting together with her quilting group to quilt and chat on a weekly basis, along with two book clubs that kept Elinor busy. She made many good friends locally in Victoria and Qualicum Beach. Elinor found friends with the same love for the Victoria Symphony or Chemainus theater.
We will miss her dearly.
An open house will be planned at a later date in Victoria, BC, and another Celebration in Edmonton in the summer of 2025. Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Victoria Hospice and Royal Jubilee Hospital who cared for Elinor during her illness.
