Eleanor Louise MacDonald
The family regretfully announces the passing of a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Eleanor Louise MacDonald on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
She was born in Sydney on March 29, 1946, to the late Wilson and Rita (Hudson) Kendrick.
Eleanor was a very caring person. She would always put the needs of her family and friends before her own.
Eleanor had several hobbies, with BINGO and Yahtzee being the top two. She also enjoyed a good game of Scrabble with family and friends. Eleanor loved to watch her soap operas and reruns of her favourite game shows and Christmas movies. Her week was always planned out. Every morning she would play a game of Cribbage with her husband, Paul, and remains undefeated, Tuesday was Merchandise BINGO, Thursday, Cedars BINGO, Saturday, she would go to her friends for a game of Yahtzee or to her sister-in-law’s for a game of Scrabble and on Sunday, Fourchu Merchandise BINGO.
During the summer, she and her husband would spend time at the Two Rivers Wildlife Park visiting friends of SunnyVale. She also enjoyed a game of Rummoli with her “Rummoli Buddies”.
Eleanor was a member of the LTBA 202 Lodge where she served as the Supreme Grand Mistress.
She leaves to mourn her husband of 60 years, Paul, as well as her children, Juanita (Heather), Kelly (Johnny), Tonya (the late Bruce Hodgson) and Trent (Donna). Eleanor also leaves behind her grandchildren, Cory (Alaina), Jordan (Amanda), Kayla (Corey), Lora Beth, Telsi-Lynn (Tyler), Shyla (Bailey), Phalen (Jonathan) and John Evan; as well as Sheila, Blake, Riona (Adam) and Kolton; and her great-grandchildren, Jason, Bretton, Kenley, Kayden and Levi.
Also grieving are her siblings: sisters, Eunice, Patsy (Wes), Beverly and Andrea (Jeff); brother, Clifford (Shannon); sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Miriam (Bill), Kerry, Delia and Bridget (Scott); brother-in-law, Nelson (Noreen); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Johnny and Jetta MacDonald; maternal and paternal grandparents; infant son, Vincent Paul; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Dougie White; son-in-law, Bruce Hodgson; and brothers-in-law, Vincent Anthony, Pierce MacNeil and Donnie Moore.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. As per her wishes, there will be no viewing. Funeral service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 6th at 11 a.m. with Deacon Jeff Dalziel officiating.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the ER, 3B and the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as her longtime physician, Dr. Worth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative Care, Marion Bridge Fire Department, Two Rivers Wildlife Park or a charity of your choice.
