DOLLEY, Eleanor Ann (nee Harren)

Passed away peacefully at Ed’s House with family by her side in her 87th year. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and son Randy. Loved by her children Brian and Tracy Bagshaw (Drew). A beloved Gramma to Brittany (Nick) ,Adam (Nicole), Cody(Nikki), Josh (Jess),Hunter (Erica), Dylan, Drew (Sam) and Trey. Adored by her 6 great grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by her sister Shirley Hines and many extended family members and friends.
Eleanor grew up in Cobourg. Together she and Ken married and lived a simple life farming and raising a family. Eleanor did enjoy working at the drive in and The Golden Miller in her younger years. Later she became a bus driver and Red Cross homemaker which she most enjoyed when caring for others. Eleanor was also be known as “the egg and corn lady”. She loved to deliver to her friends and customers in the Cobourg community. Never stopping for just a short chat, she filled many Thursdays around the town. Saturdays were filled with travelling to Peterborough market for over 50 years fulfilling customers needs. The Dolleys were popular amongst customers and vendors alike who some became friends. Saturdays were never complete without lunch date and stops for desserts on their way home.
Eleanor was a devoted parent and grandparent. She could be found cheering at ball parks, hockey arenas and dance competitions. She could be found talking on the phone for hours to friends and relatives or meeting at Dutch Oven. She was also known to frequent Wendy’s and McDonald’s with her “weight watchers” group. She always liked to socialize. Never a long distance traveller she did manage several trips to Texas over the years. She had an abundance of family knowledge and looked to as a source of information for others. She maintained strong friendships and family ties for several years despite losing some of her closest friends and family earlier in her life. Eleanor was strong, resilient and kind. “Made of good stuff” she would say.
Eleanor most recently could be found at the Golden Plough Lodge with Ken until his passing in 2023. She has spent the last few years enjoying the company of some of her closest friends there. She was well loved amongst the staff with her happy go lucky smiling demeanour. She was always up to give a whistle, sing or pat someone on their walk past her. These have been some of the most memorable times with our mom and gramma.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Golden Plough Lodge McMillan Garden. We are grateful for the care she received at NHH ER,2B and Palliative care units. We were thankful to spend her last days at Ed’s House and appreciative to the wonderful staff there where their kindness did not go unnoticed. Thank you to Dr Mule and Dr Tisher. Private family service followed by a Celebration of Life at Rural Faith United Church on Sunday May 4th from 2-4 pm. Please consider a donation to Golden Plough Lodge, NHH or Ed’s House.
