~~~~~~~~~~
It is with heavy hearts we said good-bye to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to so many – Rosie Eileen McCrady – who passed away peacefully in her 90th year on February 6th with her loving family by her side.
Eileen was born June 4,1935 and married A. Gordon (Gord) McCrady Sr., the love of her life and soulmate, on June 30, 1954. The two recently celebrated their 70th Anniversary.
Eileen is predeceased by her husband Gordon, parents Henry and Thressa Phillips and brother Gerald Phillips of Delta.
She is survived by sons Gord Jr. (Barb), Jeff (Sharon), Chris, and daughter Lisa (Dave); 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandsons, brothers Cork (Helena) Phillips, Todd (Grace) Phillips and Sister-in-law Pat Phillips as well as many nieces & nephews. She will be missed by her loving caregiver Sachin.
After pursuing a short career as a schoolteacher, Eileen became a stay-at-home mom, followed by a 15-year career at CIBC which she greatly enjoyed.
Country music fans, Eileen & Gord enjoyed their bus trips to Branson, Dollywood and Nashville and there wasn’t a “gig” where Gord Sr. was playing that you wouldn’t find Eileen front and centre. She supported him in every way.
Eileen loved the theatre, specifically musicals and travelled to Toronto, New York City, and London England to see her favourite musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She was thrilled when Joseph came to town and performed by Brockville’s St. Lawrence Stage Company. She attended the show several times during that run!
Eileen and Gord were regulars at the Brockville Arts Centre – they loved to be entertained.
Eileen’s love of the river was unprecedented – an avid boater from her younger years and you could always find her on her deck enjoying a Caesar during the summer months. She loved entertaining people at her river home in Maitland – be it Poker Run parties during the summer months (always a house full on weekends), birthday celebrations (complete with family members singing out of tune), and Christmas Eve family dinners, Eileen made these events special and always made friends feel so welcome. Her motto was: “The more the merrier”.
She absolutely loved dressing up for Halloween and had a selection of costumes to lend if you didn’t have one. A sports fanatic, she was a Super Fan of the Blue Jays and Ottawa Senators and an avid curler herself well into her 70’s.
Eileen was the most kindhearted soul, would do anything for you and also loved a good laugh! Most of all, she cherished her family and they were always her number one priority. She now joins her dear Gord Sr. where we know she is at peace.
Family and friends will be received at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 12:30 pm, with service to follow in the chapel at 1:30 pm. Interment will take place in the spring at Robertson Cemetery, Delta.
The family is requesting donations to The Brockville General Hospital Foundation Stroke Unit and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, in lieu of flowers.
