Obituary For Eileen Elizabeth Hodges
Eileen Elizabeth Hodges (Bredeson) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mackenzie Place Continuing Care Facility in Grande Prairie, where she had lovingly called home for the past six years. She was 97 years old.
Born on November 24, 1927, on the family farm in Glen Leslie, Eileen spent her early years surrounded by the beauty and simplicity of rural life. Her adventurous spirit led her to Beaverlodge, where she began working at Guadin’s Store. It was there that fate intervened, as George, the love of her life, rode his horse right into the store to capture her attention—and her heart.
Eileen and George married in 1949, building a life rooted in love, family, and their shared passion for horses. Together, they raised five children while devoting countless hours to their community through the Grande Prairie Gymkhana Club, the South Peace Horse Show Association, and the Peace Draft Horse Pulling Association.
Eileen’s talents extended beyond the equestrian world. She was an accomplished and deeply passionate artist, channeling her creativity into painting and ceramics. Alongside her daughter Rose, she owned and operated GP Ceramics, where they shared their love for the arts with the community. After George’s passing, Eileen continued teaching ceramics and spent her retirement working at Al’s News in downtown Grande Prairie.
In 1995, Eileen moved to the LaGlace area, settling into her own little home next to her daughter Sharon’s. There, she created the garden of her dreams, nurturing it with care and dedication for many years. In 2012, she returned to Grande Prairie, where she spent her final years surrounded by family.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Margaret; her beloved husband, George; her brother, Lyle; her sister, Velda; and two sons, Wayne (Wendy) and William (Karen).
She is survived by her brothers, Wilfred and Delbert; her children, Victor (Brenda) Hodges, Rosemarie (Larry) Crerar, and Sharon (Kurt) Sandboe; her 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a wealth of extended family.
Memorial donations in Eileen’s name may be made to Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation – Mackenzie Place, honoring the compassionate care she received during her final years.
Eileen’s legacy of love, creativity, strength, and tenacity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of Eileen’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Bear Creek Funeral Home 11802 99 Ave. The family looks forward to sharing more details and stories about Eileen’s incredible 97-year journey during this time.
