It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Duncan Anthony MacDonald. Duncan passed away March 28, 2025 surrounded by loving family members. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Duncan was pre-deceased by his mother Victoria, Father D.A., and brothers Kevin, Johnny and Bruce. Sister-in-laws Joan Gould and Shirley Gracie and brother-in-law Gary Sampson.
He leaves behind his loving wife Tina, sons Colin (Sharon), Parker (Trish) and grandchildren: Connor, Mila and Meara. Sisters Sherry (Tom), Rhodina, and Cynthia and brother Stef (Shauna). He is also survived by Sisters-in-law, Lorraine, Patsy, Vera (Wayne), Carol and brother-in-law John Francis (Elaine) as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Duncan completed his Bachelor of Education degree from ST. F.X.U in 1972 and landed a full-time teaching position in, L’Ardoise. Duncan was an absolutely amazing teacher! His love of math was contagious, he made it seem easy. His sons Colin and Parker could not walk by a door at school without being stopped by someone telling them their dad was their favorite teacher. Duncan taught for 35 years and after he retired, he missed it so much he began teaching at Mi’kmawey school, Chapel Island – He loved every minute of it.
Duncan loved being a dad and a husband, family was paramount to him. He was adamant to be there for his boys every step of the way. Many a weekend was spent on the road with a small car loaded with neighbourhood kids for baseball tournaments, winning games along the way, all due to his expert coaching skills. Duncan also ensured that their home was considered a haven for the boys to bring their friends, making pizza together, playing music and just letting kids be kids. Most recently, he enjoyed the role of proud poppa to his three well-loved grandchildren. Connor, Mila and Meara.
Duncan spent 49 years with the love of his life; Tina. Together they lead a full life, filled with humour, love, family and friends. A kinder man you could not meet. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Guardian Angels Church, L’Ardoise, April 11, 1pm 2025. Rev John Yake officiating. Memorial Donations can be made to the L’Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department.
