January 4 2025 résidant dans la province Saskatchewan pour le détail des funérailles
Dr. Frances Marguerite Haug passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, one month shy of her 100th birthday, surrounded by close friends and family.
Fran was born and raised on the family farm at Beaverdale, SK, to William and Elizabeth Haug.
Education was her lifelong interest, particularly as it related to the learning methodology of younger children. She attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, and held teaching positions in Rockydell, Grenfell, as well as Southampton, England, before settling in to teach in Regina.
Fran took night courses to earn her degree in education, and subsequently pursued her Master’s Degree and Ph.D at the University of Minnesota where her thesis dealt with children’s responses to literature.
Upon returning to Saskatchewan, she joined the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina where she taught for many years and was the Director of the Children’s Centre where education students got to interact with pre-schoolers in a learning environment.
She was a longtime supporter of First Baptist Church in Regina, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, as well as the Canadian Association for Young Children.
Fran was both kind and generous to her nieces and nephews by providing them with opportunities to attend summer camps, to take them to the symphony or on jaunts to visit with extended family. She was courageous enough to take her 12- and 13-year-old nephews and her mother on a cross-country trip to experience Expo 67. She valued family history, taking her mother to Vimy Ridge so that Elizabeth finally could visit the grave of her brother (Fran’s uncle), Tom Caldwell.
Fran was surrounded by an attentive group of family and friends – and these elements of her life were especially important to her as she entered her later years. The daily contact from so many people kept her engaged with what was going on in the world – and she appreciated the calls and visits so very much.
Predeceased by her parents; sister Dorothy (Hulme); brother Tom (Marion). Fran is survived by her nieces, nephews and grand nephews, all of whom were so very fortunate to have had “Aunt Fran” as part of their lives for so long.
A very special thank you to the good people at Autumn Personal Care Home who took such wonderful care of her over the past four years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church, 2241 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Donations in memory of Fran may be made to First Baptist Church, Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship or the Regina Early Learning Centre.
