GOWING, Dorothy Alice (nee Killingback) –
Dorothy Alice Gowing (nee Killingback), passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus on April 6, 2025, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital with her son Jonathan by her side. Born on August 1, 1930, in Galt, Ontario, Dorothy’s life was a testament to her loving and friendly nature.
Dorothy was the adored wife of the late Donald Gowing, with whom she shared 63 years of devoted marriage. Together, they built a family founded on faith and love. She was a guiding light and inspiration to her children: Susan Rae (Andrew), the late Joanne Grace in infancy, the late David Gowing, Dawn Carr (Gary), Esther Reed (Craig), and Jonathan Gowing. Her role as a mother was one she treasured deeply, nurturing her children with a grace that only a mother’s love can provide.
A beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy’s legacy continued through her grandchildren: David, Rachel (Joshua), Katherine (Ross), Stephen (Minh), Andrew, Elizabeth (Sam), Jonathan (Bryane), Laura (Scott), William (Val), and Christopher. Her great-grandchildren, Aivry, Josiah, Tobias, Summer, Kaila, Dorothy, Gordon, Emma, Bruno, Sarai, Rebekah, and Nathanael, brought her immense joy and pride. Her love for her family was her greatest gift, one that she gave unconditionally and without end.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Killingback and the dear sister of the late Irene Modrowski, the late Joseph Killingback, and Edward « Ted » Killingback. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Her passion for serving the Lord was evident in her active participation in children’s camping ministries, where she touched the lives of many young hearts. Dorothy’s dedication to Sunday school and neighborhood Bible clubs reflected her commitment to spreading the word of God and her desire to guide children on a path of faith and righteousness.
Dorothy’s interests were deeply rooted in her love for Jesus and the church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life’s trials and triumphs.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Dorothy will remember her for her spirited enthusiasm for life, her loving nature that embraced everyone she met, and her friendly demeanor that made strangers feel like friends. Her presence in the community was a beacon of hope and warmth, inspiring those around her to live with kindness and compassion.
The family would like to express their love and gratitude to their brother Jonathan for his many years of devoted love and care towards our mom and dad. We are forever thankful, we love you.
