Dorit was born in Hamburg, Germany to Jacob and Jeannette Jacobsen z”l. They, along with her older brother Rolf z”l, fled the Nazis and immigrated to Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in 1939, where she was raised. She married Arthur Simon (z”l) on June 10, 1962 and they raised Ivan (Laurian Nowitz) and Michael (Michael Latz) before immigrating to Canada in 1980. Dorit ran her mother’s women’s clothing boutique in Bulawayo, was a businesswoman, and loved to travel with her husband of 62 and ½ years. She was a beloved wife, mother, and Granny to Taryn (Ben), Joshua, Noa, Grayson, and Aaron. Additionally, she is remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins around the world. Granny loved tennis, going to shul on Shabbat, and a good cookie.
