Obituary of Donald Lawson Nixon
Passed peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick.
Born in Rolling Dam, New Brunswick, he was the only son of the late Lawson and Maxine (McCrum) Nixon. He was predeceased by his spouse Phylis Jean (Stevens) Nixon in March 2024.
Donald is survived by his children Eric Nixon (Sheri), Pam Nixon (Kevin Richards), Maureen Chaundy (David) and Steven Nixon (Melanie Wilson); grandchildren Jessica Lanteigne (Miguel), Joshua Dow (Kendall), Michelle Chaundy, Andrew Chaundy, Rachel Nixon and Daniel Nixon; great-grandchildren Aliee, Oliver, Nevaeh, Bowen, Alexander, Felicity, Zayden and Jayden.
Donnie’s passion was working in his sawmill that was originally purchased by his father, and which Donnie ran the mill for most of his life. He also was a school bus driver for 34 years, driving to Lawrence Station which, ironically, was where he graduated high school. A very community orientated man, Donnie was well known in Rolling Dam and neighboring communities. He was an organizing member of a group to keep the Rolling Dam name the way it was originally. He was also a founding member of the Rolling Dam volunteer fire department in 1966, retiring from the fire service in the early 2000’s.
Donnie loved the outdoors from a young age, often taking walks to enjoy nature. He had a special fondness for Lady Slippers, May flowers and large trees. As a young man he loved to ride his motorcycles. Dancing was also a passion of Donnie’s. He remembered Murphy’s Dance Hall, often reminiscing about the times he had there with anybody who would listen. The dance hall was so special to him, that he even built a replica of it which he proudly donated to the Milltown Historic Museum. After his mother passed away, Donnie inherited her extensive collection of local historic photographs, which he spent countless hours cataloguing and researching.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff at the Passamaquoddy Lodge for their compassion and care for Donnie.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Humphreys Funeral Home (20 Marks Street St. Stephen NB E3L 2B2) from 6-8PM.
