It is with heavy hearts that we announce his peaceful passing of Desmond “Desi” Paul, at the age of 70, surrounded by his loving family on October 2, 2025. Desi is predeceased by his parents; Joe and Mary; father and mother-in law; Tom and Ida Sullivan; brothers-and-sisters-in-law; Lorraine, Len, Craig Sullivan and Bob Gollop.
Desi leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife, Monnie (Sullivan); his children Lee and Amy (Mark Costello) and his cherished grandchildren Abigahl, James and Mary.
Remembering him with love are his siblings: John (Bernadine), Brian (Marilyn), Eileen (David), Fraser (Marlene), Audrey (Cyril), Chris (Daphne) and Juanita (Rick), and his extended in-law family: Jean-Anne, Doris, Shirley (John), Jimmy (Michelle), Colin (Louise), Fabian (Bernice), Tommy (Darlene), Rhoda (Edward), Denise (Mikie), Patrice, Blair (Betty), Rodney (Rita), Ross (Annette), as well as sisters-in-law Diane and Carol. Desi also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, especially his godmother, Aunt Annie Jordan and his niece Janice, who he took great joy in tormenting at every opportunity much to his amusement (and occasionally hers).
Desi loved a good game of cards with his family- not to win, but for the fun of sneaking a cheat, getting caught, and laughing it off with everyone. Throughout his life, Desi was no stranger to hard work. He dedicated much of his life to career at sea, spending many years working far from home. His work took him across the world, sailing the oceans aboard fishing draggers, lake boats and oil rigs. In those places he met many people and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. A special mention goes to the men and women aboard the Terra Nova FPSO, where Desi worked from 2000 until his retirement in 2022.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone for the love and friendship shared throughout Desi’s life, especially for the kindness and care extended during the past few weeks. We are deeply grateful to his Community Health Nurse, Michelle Rossiter, and his pharmacist, Katie Boland, whose compassion and support during this time meant so much to us and our family.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Fahey’s Funeral Home, Fermeuse, Tuesday, October 7th, from 2pm – 8pm.
The funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Ferryland, on Wednesday, October 8th, at 10:30am.
