Derek England Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek England on February 1, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice at the age of 97. Born in Birkenhead, England on October 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Harold and Agnes (Preston) England and he was the step-son of Charles Landborough.
Derek is survived by his sons Derek (Angela), Frank (Angela), Carl (Frances) and Alan (Lison); daughters Julie Robichaud and Sylvia (Kevin) Huttges; brother Charlie (Thelma) Landsborough; sisters Sylvia Richards and Doreen Landsborough; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Derek was predeceased by his wife Frances Cavanagh; son Harry England; great-granddaughters Harper Huttges and Robyn Long; great-grandson Brandon England, siblings Harry, Arthur, Jack, Dorothy and Joyce.
Derek was an avid golfer, scoring 10 holes-in-one in his lifetime. Loved to play darts, go bowling, and shuffleboard. He always thought of himself as a carpenter. He enjoyed music especially singing and spreading his love of music to those he would sing for in the nursing homes. Derek was a proud member of the Freemasons Lodge # 2 in Saint John and was a proud member of the Shriners. Lifetime member of Adanac men’s club and longstanding member of the Carleton and York regiment.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Dobbelsteyn Care Home and the staff at Bobby’s Hospice for their exceptional care.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506-646-2424). Visitation on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025 from 2 pm – 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13th, 2025 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.
Donations in Derek’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
