Dennis Oiva Soderholm
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Oiva Soderholm, a devoted Husband, Father, Grandpa, proud carpenter, and cherished friend. Dennis left us peacefully after years of battling cancer, in the early morning of Monday April 14, 2025, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, surrounded by his immediate family.
Dennis was Born on April 22, 1955, in Fort Frances, Ontario to Oiva and Mary (nee Socholotuk) Soderholm. (Predeceased)
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Janet (nee Lundy) of 46 years, daughters Heather (Brad and their son Cooper) Robinson and Megan; brothers Terry (Gloria), Mark, Todd (Becky), Ralph and sister Shirley (Lyle) Smith; brother in-law Kendall (Dawn) Lundy; sister in-laws Susan Copenace and Carol Thompson. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong best friends Steven (Allison) Skinner and Barry (Lynn) Roste.
Dennis was also predeceased by his in-laws Jack and Esther Lundy.
Dennis worked as a skilled carpenter throughout his life and took great pride in his work, proudly serving as a member of Local 1669. Whether on a job site or at home, he was known for his dedication, craftsmanship, and unwavering work ethic.
Beyond his trade, Dennis loved the outdoors. He spent countless hours fishing, hunting, sledding, and enjoying the beauty of the lake. One of his greatest joys was gathering with his close friends, the Mainville Lake Shooters, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air. His favorite place in the world was the family cabin on Nowhere Island, a spot that will forever hold memories of family, adventure, and his endless love for nature and the outdoors.
Dennis had a heart as big as his spirit. He was the first to jump in when someone needed help, a hug, or a kind word. No matter the situation, he always made sure those around him felt loved and supported. He was especially known for his unique gift with children, earning him the affectionate title of « The Baby Whisperer. » Not a baby or child could be near him without feeling the love he so freely shared.
Dennis was united in Marriage with Janet on July 8, 1978. For years, they were inseparable, creating countless memories and building a life that was full of simple joys and shared dreams, finding magic in both the big and small moments. Their bond was a testament to what it means to truly live for each other—through the laughter, the challenges, and the quiet moments in between. Whether it was taking a drive through the countryside with Dennis at the wheel and Janet shifting the gears, bird hunting together, or sharing moments at Nowhere Island, they were always there for each other, partners in the truest sense of the word.
Above all, Dennis was a proud « girl dad. » He was endlessly proud of his daughters, Heather and Megan, and took every opportunity to show them how much he loved them. From family trips to everyday moments, Dennis cherished every second spent with his girls. He was incredibly proud of their accomplishments, and it brought him immeasurable joy to pass along his skills and life lessons to them.
Dennis found his greatest joy in his role as a grandfather, and nothing brought him more pride than his beloved grandson, Cooper. He took great pleasure in passing down his knowledge and passions to him. Their time together was filled with laughter, adventure, and countless memories—fishing, swimming, 4-wheeling, cabin nights and many other activities with smiles that said it all. The bond they shared was one of unwavering love and it was clear to all who knew him just how much Cooper meant to him.
Dennis’s cremation has taken place, and while his physical presence is no longer with us, his love, wisdom, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home LTD in Emo, Ontario.
In Memoriam, donations may be made to Riverside hospital.
