We celebrate the life of Mr. Dennis James Brown who passed away peacefully at Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the age of 90 years. Dennis faced Alzheimer’s with courage and grace, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Dennis was born at home near the town of Parkside, Saskatchewan. He was the fourth of seven children born to George Lyman Brown and Olive Winnifred Brown (nee Crowther). As a young man, Dennis attended the University of Saskatchewan College of Engineering. After completing his education and earning his Engineering Certificate, he began his career as an Instrument Man for the city of Prince Albert from 1958 to 1959. In 1960, he was promoted to Engineering Technician, a role he held until 1963, when he was entrusted with overseeing all sewer and water designs for the city. In January of 1964, Dennis drove his 1948 Plymouth to Vancouver, British Columbia, where he seized an opportunity to work for the District of Haney. He was later thrilled to be offered the position of Public Works Officer in 1965 which took him to Revelstoke, British Columbia.
During his time in Vancouver, Dennis realized he couldn’t live without the love of his life who he had left behind in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He wrote a love letter and included a train ticket, then sent it to Geraldine ‘Gerri’ Winter. Gerri accepted his romantic gesture and the two reunited in Vancouver where they celebrated their love with an intimate wedding held in September of 1964. Dennis and Gerri immediately started a family, welcoming Carmen Lisa, then Amber Sharon, and lastly Darren Mark. Never one to shy from change and the chance for new adventure, Dennis eventually moved his family to Red Deer, Alberta where he eagerly pursued a variety of career opportunities.
Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Carmen Lyall (Douglas), Amber Brown, and Darren Brown, his grandchildren, Angela Tycholaz (Chris), Jayme Roman (Rudy), Alora Chaput, and Jaelyn Chaput, his great grandchildren, Juliette Tycholaz, Jude Tycholaz, and Memphis Roman, as well as his sister, Shirley (Sam) Brown. He was predeceased by his parents George Lyman Brown and Olive Winnifred Brown, and his siblings, Olive Fern Brown, Marvin Walter Brown, Keith George Brown, Eileen Arletta Brown, and Gordon Jasper Brown. Dennis was cherished for his easy-going and patient nature, endearing himself to everyone who knew him. In keeping with his humble spirit and his wish to avoid the spotlight, a Funeral Service will not be held.
