Obituary of Deborah Lynn Margaret Hayes
Surrounded by the love of her three children, Deborah “Debbie” Hayes passed peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Born March 4, 1960, she was the only child of Norma (Wilson) and the late Stewart McKinney.
Debbie enjoyed her work at Charm Diamond Centre and the fellowship shared with her church congregation. More than anything though, her unwavering love for her children and especially her grandchildren was incredibly beautiful. Debbie always focused on her family, and time with them all was of utmost importance. She was a pillar of strength and love and remained unbelievably calm, strong, sweet, selfless, and positive throughout her illness, always worrying about others.
Besides her loving mother, Norma, Debbie is survived by her children: Steven Hayes (Lisa), Chris Hayes (Katie), and Samantha Hayes (John Crowe); beloved grandchildren: Layla and Lucas Crowe and Charlotte and Hannah Hayes; her aunt, Linda Wilson; special cousins: Joanne Curbishley, David Wilson, Allan Wilson, Cheryl Wilson, and Brian Smith; her beloved dog, Winston; as well as several extended family members and dear friends.
Besides her father, Stewart, she was predeceased by her aunt, Joan Smith; uncles, Gary Wilson and Malcolm McKinney; and cousin, David Smith.
The family would like to take this opportunity to extent a special thank you to Dr. Chris O’Brien, Nurses Carolyn Ramsay and Kelly Sue Burgess, and the team of doctors, nurses, and volunteers of Palliative Care for their dedication to Debbie’s comfort and for their care and friendship in her final days.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424), where visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will take place in Brenan’s Chapel on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11 am. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances to SJRH’s Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family and may be placed, along with condolences, at www.BrenansFH.com.
