Obituary
David Malcolm Fraser
May 27, 1948 – February 4, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Malcolm Fraser on February 4, 2025 in his 77th year. Devoted husband of Leona (nee MacLennan), proud and loving father of Rodney and the late Janet Lynn and cherished Papa of Rachel. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Donald (Mary), Betty (Norman), Dorothy, Neil (Joyce), Kathy (Fred), Andy (Karen) and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dena (Hector), Bernie, John, Cecil and Jeanette (Donnie). He is also mourned by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Isabel Fraser, his beloved daughter Janet and his parents-in-law Neil and Aggie MacLennan.
David will forever be remembered for his quiet calm demeanor, gentle smile and his intense pride in his Scottish heritage and Fraser ancestry. He sought perfection in all he undertook; he was a well respected farmer and natural machinist with the talent to repair, manufacture, create and weld almost anything. David was a very spiritual man and had a great respect and love for the land and all of nature. His happy place was the maple sugar bush where he spent weeks working the bush, preparing and harvesting maple syrup and on rare occasions could be found in the cabin just sitting by the fire with a good book. One of his greatest joys was the Laggan PS Kindergarten classes annual excursions to the bush where they would be educated about the process of making syrup followed by generous servings of taffy. David was a life-long integral member of East Hawkesbury United Church acting as steward and trustee and for many years he donated his time to the immaculate care of the cemetery. David was one of the original members of the Quigley Highlanders Pipes and Drums organization. He held the position of president for a number of years and was a dedicated band manager until his passing.
David was a wonderful husband and he and Leona spent 53 years of marriage blessed by a deep and abiding love and an abundance of romance and humour. He was a great father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend and his life was a blessing to all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Ottawa Hospital Oncology Unit and the Hawkesbury General Hospital for their professional and compassionate care of David over the past 15 months.
Relatives and friends are asked to gather at the Glengarry Funeral Home, 580 Main St. S., Alexandria, ON K0C 1A0 (613) 525-3400 on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. and on Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 12 – 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the Alexandria Curling Club, 138 Main St. S. Alexandria, ON, (613) 525-3542.
For those who wish, donations to the Hawkesbury General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
