David William Nelson Obituary
We are very sad to share that we lost our brother, uncle, nephew, and friend – David. He passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 61. To our regret, his big heart couldn’t sustain the health challenges he faced over the last 18 months. He leaves his brother, Stephen (Kim), sister Alissa Chambers (Ian), brother John (Joanne), his nieces and nephews, Sarah (Joshua), Daniel (Alisha), Caralynn, Claire (Erik), Jacob, Grace, and Alex (Surayya), his aunt Ruth Curry, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Nora.
David was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He often caught his parents off guard with his rebellious and resourceful spirit. He was fearless and free to explore anything and everything – until it was time for dinner.
He was the embodiment of “thinking outside the box”. It wasn’t surprising that his chosen career involved computers. The fairly new field suited his agile mind and love of challenging conventions.
Workarounds were his playground, and he used them to progress his career with TD Bank for more than 20 years, specializing in computer hardware storage and systems. Sought after for this specialized knowledge, he accepted contracts after leaving TD, until he felt he had worked enough. He valued his freedom and wanted to live on his own terms.
David liked to push boundaries and norms, but was genuine, caring, and loyal. He was a loving uncle with an outrageous sense of fun. Well read, he had advice for all situations (and opinions to match). David was open to new ideas so long as they could take his challenge, and he reveled in pushing your buttons. He was a storyteller and didn’t hesitate to laugh at himself. He loved movies and television – often catching onto the next big thing before anyone else. Like his father, he loved to cook and entertain.
Overall, he cared deeply for those he loved and was generous with his time and resources. If you needed him, he would be there. He has left a hole that won’t be filled. We miss him dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Saturday, April 26, 2025, to remember and celebrate the wonderful person David was from 2 – 4 p.m., after which, those in attendance are invited to join the family at Riley’s Pub, 104 King St. E., Oshawa. Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, the War Amps, or any charity of your choosing. Online condolences can be shared at makfuneralhome.com
