David Goodine
1942-2025
Our Dad, David Winston Goodine, passed away today April 13, 2025, at
the age of 82 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in
Saint John, NB, on August 17, 1942.
He had a colorful life…. We will always remember Dad as being a hard
worker and a man tight with his money. He worked in several
professions starting with the military. He enlisted at age 17 in the
London area of Ontario, then he became a cowboy/ranch hand/farrier
through the 60’s when he moved to Alberta to make a new life
with his first wife JoAnne Vanderheyden. Later in the 70’s he
continued the farrier business as well as being a taxi driver, tow
truck driver and eventually a long-haul truck driver which was his
last career, finally retiring in his late 70’s. He was a very
social guy and met people everywhere he went. Some of those
friendships lasted his entire lifetime. He loved Elvis, he had a black
belt in karate, and he taught women’s self defence and tai chi
for many years. He read all of Louis L’Amour’s books and
loved historical cowboy stories; hockey was always on TV when we were
kids as was the record player with old classic country music along
with Elvis. After 40 years in Alberta in the Calgary area where all
his six kids were born, he decided to move back to New Brunswick with
his second wife Debbie Gilbert and two of the kids to be closer to his
mom and sisters and of course buy cheaper properties. When he got sick
February 2023 and found he was alone a lot of the time in Plaster Rock
he decided to get back in Alberta for his last chapter. He drove
himself with a fully loaded U-Haul truck at age 81 in the July heat of
2024. He settled in the lovely city of Lacombe, Alberta which ended up
being his final destination.
Survived by his children Debby Potter, Doug Goodine (Judy), Sharon
Gallagher (Darwin), Lorrie Angermeier (Bob), Katie Goodine (Shane
Rakesh), Andrew Goodine. Sisters Joan Rymarchuk (Frank) and Dawn
Czernecki (Wally). Grandchildren Melissa Jennings, Kayley Johnson
(Rye), Cole Goodine (Lauren Fenlon), Chelsea Walker, Chase Gallagher
(Jessica), Chaylene Gallagher (Liam Liston), Chara Gallagher, Cody
Goodine
(Kristine Coburn), Kaitlyn Angermeier (Cam Magera), Carson Angermeier
(Cherish Stewart). Proud to have met most of his 10 great
grandchildren, Jae Young Jennings, Porter Johnson, Madison Sandboe,
Corbin Cameron, Koen Gallagher, Kesler Gallagher, Ava Goodine, Macy
Goodine, Thea Goodine and Hadlee Angermeier.
Dad had much love for his numerous New Brunswick nieces, nephews and
cousins and of course his Aunt Velma. Best friend (of 40 years) Kevin
Keating from Nanaimo, BC was with him every step of the way in person
and on the phone. Predeceased by his parents Murchie and Hazel
(Shannon), brother Fred, sister Linda Mauro, grandson Justin Jennings,
grand twins Tannis & Sharri Walker, great grandson Colton Cameron
and nephew Robert Czernecki.
Dad’s wish is for interment with his parents and sister Linda at
the Currie Cemetery in Tilley, NB where we will have celebration of
life in early summer 2025.
Thank you to Luc at Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, NB for the
gracious assistance with planning in the two provinces. Thank you as
well to Parkland Crematorium for the professional care of our
Dad.
Grateful acknowledgement to the Palliative care teams both in Plaster
Rock NB and Lacombe Alberta; Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care Doctors
and nursing staff for devoted care and loving treatment of Dad in his
final journey.
Donations to The Broomtree Foundation in Lacombe Alberta would be
appreciated by the family or put 10% of everything you earn into a
savings account and think of Dad when your nest egg grows.
“The Thing is…I had a great long life; did everything I wanted
to do and had a lot of fun. I wish I could have had longer but I am
grateful for what I did have.” Dad
