David Bimm Obituary
“Dave, Davey, Bimmer” (July 6, 1955 – January 28, 2025)
The Bimm Family is heartbroken to share the loss of our beloved David Leonard Bimm on January 28, 2025, at the Maison McCulloch Hospice. He was the treasured son of Leonard and Hazel (Wirtanen) Bimm both predeceased. Much loved brother of infant Judith (predeceased), Janice (predeceased), John, and Karen Ann both of Sudbury. He will be missed by nieces Jaymi Hallows (Chris) and their children, Sara Flint and her children, Samantha Brands (Christian) and their children, and nephew Mark Bimm. Dearly loved wife, business partner and his rock of 43 years to Karen Ann Bimm (Barss). Father and best friend to son Westleah and his partner Kelsey Collins and much loved by daughters and their partners Bryanna (Josh Cuomo) and Hayley (Jordon Hynes). Most cherished brother-in-law to Debra Sealey, and most treasured uncle to Jaz Sealey.
David had a brilliant mind, was passionate to help others with his vast knowledge of skill sets, and had immeasurable care for his customers, friends and staff. He ensured they received honest, fair and over the top service with whatever he was helping them with. This mind set was one of his greatest assets. From a young age David had a strong passion for mechanics. After working in the automotive industry at Kimberly Motors he then went to work for The Shop as the Service Manager for over twenty years. He then left The Shop to start his own business. David opened Northstar Recreation January 10, 2005, from nothing but his reputation. Northstar Recreation became an immediate success and just celebrated 20 years in business.
David’s approach to life was to “fly by the seat of your pants” and he always had an open-door policy. The garage had a special place in David’s heart with the understanding of “If you see the lights on, come into the garage for a beer.” It facilitated many events, such as Christmas, Birthdays, and Supercross parties just to name a few. Although David did not have a pilot’s licence; one of his largest achievements was the purchase and restoration of his airplane. Luckily for David, Michael Yallowega was his trusted partner and pilot. Michael would fly David and his two co-pilots Parker and Nash out to his camp on Lake Panache. He enjoyed spending time at camp with family and friends. There was always a project on the go and a new one to start before the last one was finished (who wants to relax at camp anyway).
We would also like to express our appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and homecare staff at every step of the way for their kindness, support and dedication to David’s care. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the Maison McCulloch Hospice who provided exceptional and constant care for the short time David was there.
David was deeply respected by all those whose paths he crossed in business and in life. He had the ability to make everyone feel like family and will be deeply missed.
An honouring of David’s life will take place at the Lockerby Legion, 2200 Long Lake Road, in Sudbury Friday February 21, 2025, from 12pm to 4pm with a memorial service at 2pm.
Should flowers or a donation be considered, David requested a donation be made to The SPCA or The Maison McCulloch Hospice.
Cremation entrusted to Simple Wishes of the North Sudbury and Crystal Crematorium.
