Dale Ralph Harrison, a man whose laughter and love for life were as strong as the steel he spent his career perfecting, has skated his final lap around the rink of life. Born in Edmonton, AB, on March 20, 1961, Dale’s journey through life was one filled with joy, wisdom, and an unwavering devotion to his family and the Edmonton Oilers. On December 27, 2024, at the age of 63, Dale passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones, his hand held by his wife, Connie of 37 years, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Dale was the epitome of a family man, with a heart as big as his beloved hockey rink. His wife, Connie, was the love of his life, and together they raised a beautiful team of their own. Their children, Holly (Jaden), Riley (Alyx), Jesse, and Jamie, were his pride and joy, and he coached them through the game of life with the same passion he had for all sports. Dales’s wisdom and love were the guiding lights for his family, always showing them the way with one of his many stories or a pat on the back.
Educated at NAIT, Dale brought his A-game to the melt shop, rising to the position of Melt Shop Manager in the steel-making industry. His career wasn’t just about making steel; it was about shaping relationships, as he built a reputation for being as dependable as the products he helped create. In the world of electrode sales, working with Sangraf International, Dale was known for his electrifying personality and the ability to spark a connection with anyone he met.
Past President and highly active member of the Electric Metal Makers Guild for over 20 years, his knowledge about furnace operations was far and above anyone else’s. He had connections in nearly every Steel Mill across North America. Loved by all Guilders, his friendship, knowledge and sense of humour will be missed.
Dale’s interests were diverse. When he wasn’t cheering on the Oilers, he could be found camping under the stars, whether in the mountains or at the lake, sharing stories around the campfire while waiting for his pie iron pizza. His love for all sports was infectious, and he was always ready to debate the latest play or referee call.
Those who knew Dale would describe him as kind, wise and loving – a hat-trick of qualities that made him the MVP in the hearts of those around him. He navigated life’s challenges with grace and resilience, always ready with so many stories to share, even when the chips were down.
Today, we bid farewell to a man who was the captain of our hearts. Dale’s legacy is not just in the love and laughter he leaves behind, but in the lessons of love, kindness, and joy he imparted to everyone he touched. As we remember Dale, let’s lace up our skates, hit the ice and play the game of life with as much gusto as he did, always aiming for the goal of making the world a brighter place.
Dale, your final buzzer may have sounded, but the echoes of your humour and love will resonate with us forever. Here’s to you, our beloved husband, father, friend, and brother. Your spirit will continue to cheer on the Oilers from the best seat in the house, with an ice-cold bottle of Canadian, and we’ll make sure to score a few goals in your honour. Keep the ice cold for us up there, Dale; we’ll all be up for a game when our time comes.
A Celebration of Dale’s Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial Donations in Dale’s memory may be made to one’s charity of choice.
