Hopkins, Dale Lamont – It is with profound shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother Dale, on Wednesday January 29, 2025, at Roseway Hospital. Born in Doctor’s Cove, Shelburne Co. NS on July 15, 1949, Dale was the second son of the late Samuel and Enid (Purdy) Hopkins. Dale was always a hardworking individual despite his limitations. Dale worked full time in the local fishing industry, as a fish handler, until his health problems forced him to retire. In his early life, he was employed at his Uncle Freddie Hopkins’ fish plant, moving to and retiring from G.M. Newell Fisheries. After retiring, Dale faithfully helped care for his elderly mother until she entered Surf Lodge Nursing Home. Following his mother’s death, Dale entered Roseway Manor in Shelburne, which quickly became his new home. Dale enjoyed the activities and participating in the many events held for residents, especially looking forward to visits from local musicians. He always looked forward to weekly visits with his brother Martin and his dog, Sugar. Sugar quickly became a second companion for Dale, with many playful wrestling matches to be had. Dale particularly loved showing Sugar off to the other residents. Dale is survived by his siblings: Osborne (Gail) Hopkins, Lucille (Robert) Kenney, Phyllis (the late Paul) Krafve, Martin (Judy) Hopkins, Suzanne (Rodney) Crowell, Caroline (Richard) Hallett, Wilma (David) Wile; many nieces and nephews: Bonnie (Darrell) LeBlanc, Paula (Darren) Munroe, Rodney (Laura) Crowell, Mark (Sarah) Crowell, Geniece (David) Tapley, Jeremy (Carli) Hopkins, Jenny (Cody) Porter, Corey (Viktoria) Hallett. Also great nieces and nephews: Drew, Noah, Benjamin, Kaelyn Paul, Ben, Jazmyne. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of Roseway Manor and Roseway Hospital for their exceptional care of Dale over the past four plus years. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington with visitation on Saturday February 1, 2025, from 6 – 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on February 2, 2025 at 3 pm from the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington. Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. Interment at Woodside Cemetery, Port LaTour. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, Roseway Manor or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
