Obituary of Craig Robert Lindsay Stuart
It is with great sadness that the family of Craig Stuart announces his sudden passing on March 12, 2025, while enjoying a vacation with his wife by his side. He was 63 years old.
He was deeply loved by his wife Jo-Anne Stuart (nee Uttley), married for 39 years. Cherished father of daughter Kaitlyn Stuart, son-in law Matthew Slawich, and daughter Jacquelyn Stuart-Ruppert, son-in law Jordan Ruppert. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Isabelle and Emma Ruppert.
Beloved son of Mabel Acton and son-in-law of Donna Uttley. Dear brother to Lauren Hackney, Heather Fisher, Denise Novak. Brother-in-law’s Brian Uttley, John Hackney, Brad Fisher, and Dave Ashlee. Predeceased by his father Robert Stuart and father-in-law Myles Uttley.
Craig coached men’s rugby at the University of Waterloo for 9 years. During his tenure as coach, they won the OUA bronze medal in 2004. Craig went on to win the award for coach of the year in 2005. He coached high school rugby at Elmira District Secondary School for 16 years, Waterloo Oxford for 12 years, and Grand River Collegiate for 2 years. He also coached high school football at Elmira District Secondary, Waterloo Oxford, and Grand River Collegiate high schools. He had a love for sports and demonstrated that passion by volunteering his time.
Craig was a much-loved high school teacher who retired from a full career teaching History. He impacted on the lives of many students over his career. He had a passion for teaching kids, coaching and fostering a love for learning.
Craig enjoyed spending his summers at his cottage in Dorset, Ontario, with his loved ones. The cottage was a special place where Craig found peace and joy surrounded by nature. He enjoyed working on projects both up north and around his own home in Waterloo. Anyone who knew Craig knew he loved to lend a helping hand. He spent his retirement helping his daughters work on their homes, fixing things, laying flooring, cutting grass, or anything they needed assistance with. He would drop anything to help his family when they were in need, whether it be picking up a sick grandchild from daycare or driving 3 hours to Windsor to drop off a piece of furniture.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, siblings, and his many friends, students, and colleagues.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
