Obituary of Collis Marlene Watson
Collis Watson, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Hythe, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 80 years.
Collis was born on November 18, 1944, to Mel and Isobel Ray. She was the fourth daughter of a family of twelve children. In her early childhood years, Collis was raised in the area of Two Rivers, AB, until the family relocated to Beaverlodge, AB. It was in Beaverlodge where Collis met her future husband, Gerald Watson. They married on December 4, 1965, and soon began their family with the birth of their first son, Garry, in 1966. Debbie followed in 1969, and Ian completed their family in 1973. The family settled in Hythe in 1978, where they farmed for many years. They moved to Grande Prairie in 1992, while Gerald continued to farm, Collis stayed home to raise their grandson Cameron, whom Collis loved as her own child.
Collis was quiet and reserved. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and you would never hear her gossip. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and travelling. She loved music and could learn the lyrics and tune to a song quickly. She loved to watch curling on TV and faithfully cheered for her favourite teams.
In 2005, Collis and Gerald retired to Oliver, BC, where they enjoyed warm and mild winters for 14 years. As Collis’s health began to fail, they moved to Dawson Creek, BC, to be closer to the kids, then back to Grande Prairie, for better healthcare for Collis. Unfortunately, Collis’s health continued to deteriorate until her passing on May 11, 2025.
Collis so loved her family. Her children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her so much pride, happiness, and joy. Collis and Gerald were married just shy of 60 years, but together, what a legacy they built!
Collis leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Gerald; sons: Garry (Anna), and Ian (Carmen); daughter Debbie (Clayton); grandchildren: Janelle Letendre, Jalenna Letendre, Jaydon Letendre, Cameron Watson, Taiya Watson, Courtney Watson, Ryan Alexander, Hailey Wallace, Brooke Murray, Stefan Watson, Tunika Watson, Zack Watson, and Dominic Watson; great-grandchildren Zoey, Victor, Landon, Daylen, and Rory; sisters Melba (Brian) Peace, Lois Olsen, Rhoda D’Aoust, Judy (Ross) Hauger, Brenda (Chris) Antonio, and Marlo (Norman) Saastad; brothers: Cecil (Dorothy) Ray, Norman (Geri) Ray, and Darin (Ada) Ray; As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Collis was predeceased by her father Mel Ray, mother Isobel Ray (neé Martinson), her in-laws, Bill Watson, Agnes Watson, and her brothers Ervin Ray and Dennis Ray.
The family would like to invite all those who knew and loved Collis to a Celebration of Life that will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church (409 10th St.), with lunch to follow.
Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation – Alberta (www.heartandstroke.ca/) or a charity of one’s choice.
