O’NEILL (Garden) , Colleen Anne- 82, Enfield, NS/ Moncton NB, passed away peacefully surrounded by members of her family, Saturday, January 25, 2025. Born in Halifax, Colleen was the only daughter of the late Rayburn (1943, WW II) and Dorothy Garden (2017).
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of fifty-two years, Jerome O’Neill (2011) and her step-father: Jerome Garden (2007).
For over fifty years, Jerome and Colleen enjoyed living in their Forest Hill Drive community in Moncton, New Brunswick. After Jerome’s death, she moved back to her hometown of Enfield, NS where she remodelled their « camp » into a beautiful country home.
Left to mourn our loss forever are sisters: Judy, Peggy, Gerry, Vivian, Sandra, and her two brothers: Wayne and Darrell. Colleen was a much loved and respected aunt by her nieces: Heather, Karla, Carol Anne, Tanya, Bridget, Meredith, Lea, Jennie, Sarah, Emily, Ashleigh, Nicole, and Taylor, as well as her nephews: Jeff, Sheldon, Shannon, Kyle, and Scott.
Probably Colleen’s greatest regret was that Jerome, her family members, her bosses, her co-workers, and her hired help did not always fully appreciate her often unsolicited advice. A perfectionist by nature, she offered constructive’ criticism freely about baking, cooking, child-rearing, road building, company management, lawn care, and home renovations… in addition to life in general while having a heart of gold. Colleen was guided by the best of intentions.
A special thank you to Mary O’Neill for the kindness, compassion, and support Mary offered Colleen especially throughout these past few years.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale, NS.
There will be no visitation or funeral service at Colleen’s request. Committal of Colleen’s ashes will take place at a later date at Saint Bernard’s Cemetery in Enfield, NS.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to a local food bank would be greatly appreciated.
