The world has dimmed a little with the passing of Colin Fox, a beloved Canadian actor whose talent graced both stage and screen, and whose spirit radiated warmth and generosity to all who knew him. Colin, remembered by many as the kindest man with the biggest heart, passed away unexpectedly in Fergus, ON at the age of 86 on April 5, 2025.
Whether portraying a memorable character on stage or screen, or simply navigating everyday life, Colin’s vastness of character shone through. He was a thoughtful and attentive individual, always considering the feelings and well-being of others. He gave freely of his time, his resources, and most importantly, his unwavering kindness. Beyond his immense heart, Colin possessed a sharp mind and a quick wit that could illuminate any room. He had a remarkable ability to find humour even in the most challenging of circumstances, offering a lightness and perspective that was deeply appreciated by those around him. In his roles as a spouse, father, friend, and respected colleague, he left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, his genuine spirit leaving a lasting impression. He had a unique ability to connect with people on a profound level, making everyone he encountered feel seen and valued. Colin’s contributions to the arts scene were significant, his voice bringing countless stories and characters to life across various mediums. Colin also possessed a passion for travelling, embracing all the world had to offer with an open mind while maintaining a compassion which extended to his love of nature and all living things.
Colin’s memory will forever be cherished by his spouse loving Susan, and his daughter Sarah (Mark). Colin was beloved by Susan’s daughter Shannon and her children Cameron, Evan and Erica. Colin was predeceased by his former wife Carol Bermingham-Fox (2015). While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of Colin Fox – a legacy built on kindness, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the lighter side of life – will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Church, 36 Henderson St, Elora on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11am with a reception to follow. A celebration of Colin’s life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Colin’s memory may be made to Aboyne Rural Hospice, the Grand River Hospital (cheques payable to the Oncology Unit) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
