Cissy Deirdre Langridge Obituary
In loving memory of a remarkable life, we announce the passing on January 25th, 2025 of Cissy Deirdre Langridge (nee Hirons), you may have known her as Chris, well into her 95th year. She was with her family.
Cissy arrived on May 26th, 1930 and completed a family of nine. She shared the birthday with her eldest sibling Maisie (b.1913). It’s almost hard to imagine the whirlwind in which she grew up in the Kilburn area of London – surrounded by a large/active family, the city and then WW2. While her siblings’ lives were unfolding, friends, the neighbourhood pub and Paddington Rec were all close by and part of many of Cissy’s stories. With nieces and nephews born during the war, Cissy took on the role of aunt in her early teens – family to which she had a lifelong connection.
Cissy met George at a London dancehall in the early fifties, they married in 1953 and immediately started a family. In 1957 they embarked on a journey to Canada with two young children in tow – Jane and Robert. A few years later their family was completed with the arrival of Mark. They settled in Milton – at the time a town of just under 5000 – and life unfolded. Cissy shifted from aunt/bestie to the role of mum to her three children, onto grandmother to eight and finally great-grandmother to nine…. (and counting…). To all of her grandchildren she was Cissy (or great-Cissy) and throughout her life she was an unwavering positive force on the family and her community.
Cissy made Milton a better place through her volunteer work with the Candy Stripers (young hospital volunteers), the 4-H Club, IODE and delivering for Meals on Wheels with George. She also competed at several Ontario Senior Games. In addition to raising a family, Cissy had many jobs over the years. She worked for P.L. Robertson, White Oaks Pottery, local dress shops, delivered local newspapers, taught sewing and was a skilled seamstress. Cissy remains admired for her strength, generosity, practicality, and her adventurous and loving ways. She is affectionately remembered for her baked goodies, fruit jams, knitted sweaters and countless beautifully sewn items. And for her waving hug which will go on – ask one of us to demonstrate.
Cissy and George celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August 2023. George passed away not long afterward. Cissy outlived her parents and her 6 siblings – the last of that generation of her family. She is survived by her children Jane Marshall (Hugh d.), Robert and Mark (Colleen). By grandchildren Elizabeth Adamson (Keith), Andrew Marshall (Rebecca), James (Tori), Craig (Tina), Laura (Edward), Emily (Jesse), Graham (Kateri) and Eric (Jordyn). And by great-grandchildren Isla, Georgia, Alasdair, Charlie, Sam, Caleb, John, Faye, Audrey… to be continued.
The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care that supported Cissy over the past years, provided by all the personnel with Dr. Sadera, Seasons Milton, Sunrise Oakville and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ian Anderson House, Halton Healthcare or Meals on Wheels ( Please see the donation links below ) or a donation to a charity of your choice.
