Carolyn Anne Rebeyka, 60, of Regina, died Monday, January 13, after a short illness.
Carolyn was born in Saskatoon March 9, 1964, to Annie Rebeyka (Luchka) and Harry Rebeyka. After attending the University of Saskatchewan, Carolyn had a long career with the Saskatchewan New Democrats working in several ministries, executive council and at one point serving as the NDP caucus chief of staff. She also worked with Saskatchewan unions; she was a past executive director of SEIU Local 333 and was a valued co-worker at SGEU at the time of her passing.
Carolyn was passionate about politics, democracy and making people’s lives better. She was generous, kind and brilliant; her political teammates called her Oracle because her opinions almost always proved correct. She was an active volunteer in the community. In her personal life, Carolyn loved cooking, watching movies, playing tabletop games, books, music and attending concerts. She adored animals, always loved meeting dogs and cats and was known to thousands of Reginans as a nice lady who took her beloved pet snakes out for walks.
Carolyn is survived by siblings Eugene Rebeyka, Helen Rebeyka, Pauline Rebeyka and beloved nephews Zach Erickson, Justin Rebeyka and Warren Rebeyka and his wife Cassandra Thompson. She is mourned by an impossible number of friends and admirers, including her “Avengers” Bev, Janet and Judy, and her dear best friend and companion Stephen Whitworth.
A memorial will be held at a future date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Salthaven West Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre, and Prairie Dog magazine.
