Devoted husband, cherished father and grandfather, dedicated and respected schoolteacher of 34 years, Vince Buckland passed away peacefully Thursday, March 6, 2025, age 82, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, Vince was the son of the late Helen and Louis Buckland.
Vince is survived by his wife, Diane of 58 years; sons, Christopher (Beverly) and Kurt (Tracey); granddaughters, Abby, Becca, Emily, Erin and brother-in-law, Robert Pierrynowski.
Besides his parents, Vince was predeceased by his infant son, Craig; brothers, Steve, Bill, Louis and Gordon; sisters, Theresa, Louise, and sister-in-law, Josephine Doane.
Vince was quiet by nature, but his presence said it all. He loved and was loved in return. Grandad was so proud of his granddaughters sharing in all their individual accomplishments.
Vince had the ability to connect with his students offering patience, care, and guidance. He was a 4th Degree Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. Vince looked forward to his weekly activities of tarabish, darts and bowling.
For many years Diane and Vince enjoyed going to socials and dances in the Sydney and surrounding areas. Diane and Vince enjoyed travelling and had many memorable adventures. The walls of their home are adorned with Vince’s photography of their trips.
As most know Vince was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan with many collectables.
A special thank you to brother-in-law, Robert who was a great friend and was always there for him. Also, Terry and Anne Campbell for their lifelong friendship and many deeds of kindness including endless gifts of food.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Vincent Buckland will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with the memorial service to follow at 12 noon in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Vincent may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
