In Loving Memory
It is with deep sorrow that the family of George William Nicholson, fondly known as Billy announces his passing. Billy spent his last days with his family and took his last breath surrounded by love on January 31st, 2025 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche.
Billy was born in Halifax on January 28th, 1948, to George and Mary (Dumas) Nicholson. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years Glenna, and sons Blaine (Kellylea), Tatamagouche, Andy (Rachel), Tatamagouche, and Jason (Marlene), Antigonish; grandchildren Lori, Aimee, Hannah, Aleesa, Logan, Bryson, and Jayce; great grandchildren Sophie, Brynleigh, Kingston, Hudson, and Lochlan; brothers Ronnie (Louise), Tatamagouche, and Dave (Karen), Porters Lake, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Welcoming Billy with open arms are his parents Mary and George; infant sons Brent and Billy; sister Ann; brother Robert; special sister-in-law Roslyn and many family and friends.
During Billy’s early years while living in Halifax, he worked in construction, but his heart was always in Tatamagouche, dreaming of building his own home on the perfect plot of land. In 1985, that dream came true, moving to Tatamagouche, he lovingly built the family home with his own hands from the ground up being sure that everything was perfect. From then on Billy’s heart was full and he was content. He became a general handyman who was well known in Tatamagouche as the guy who would be willing to help anyone and everyone. Watching his boys build their own lives filled him with love, and you could always see a twinkle in his eye when he was spending time with his grandchildren, usually teaching them a rhyme or two.
More often than not Billy could be found at his favourite social spot, the Shell. This is where he was known for his humour, quick wit, and always ready with a joke. It didn’t matter if you were a close friend, a regular joe, or even a stranger. Billy could strike up a conversation in which you would be guaranteed to leave with a smile, this truly made his heart happy. Billy was also an avid outdoorsman in his younger years, enjoying his time by the local fishing hole or wandering through the woods hunting. Later in life, he took great pride in the upkeep of his property, tinkering with lawn tractors and simply spending time in his shed.
Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bush, the many nurses at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital as well as numerous VON nurses throughout the years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home in Tatamagouche from where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, February 9th, 2025 from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Aux. or the Victorian Order of Nurses.
