PETERS, William
1938 – 2025
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Mr. William ‘Bill’ Gordon Peters of Red Deer, Alberta, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the age of 86 years. Bill was born on November 17, 1938, at Three Hills, Alberta to Duncan and Jessie Peters, the first of three children. He grew up in a farming family that exemplified a strong work ethic. Hard work and honest sweat developed his character. Bill spent his early years farming, and then transitioned to Oilfield Consulting in the mid 1970’s. In retirement, he enjoyed working as a shuttle driver and Casino security, where his gift of gab was an asset. He was genuinely interested in people and their stories. He shared stories also. No one could embellish a story or come up with a nickname quite like Bill. Bill married the love of his life, Irene, on October 29, 1961. They were happily married for sixty-one years and created a legacy of love. Bill and Irene enjoyed camping their entire lives. From a camper to motorhome and eventually a park model at Glennifer Lake, camping meant family, friends, reunions, and a likeminded community. They also enjoyed traveling, playing cards and hosting family and friends. In Three Hills, Bill was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge for sixty-four years. He always took an interest in what was happening within the Three Hills Lodge. We don’t usually think of people in their 80’s as particularly tech savvy. Bill enjoyed his Kobo, iPhone and iPad to stay current, research items and keep in touch. He was on several group texts and was lovingly called the “king of emoji’s” and “lightening fingers Bompa”. He was fortunate to have “on-call tech support” provided by his granddaughters.
We would like to include a few “Bill Bullet Points” as this tribute is not reflecting the real man.
– He was a great cook. He was always given the chicken or turkey carcass to make incredible homemade soups. He loved making jerky. Enjoyed 70’s fondues for decades and would BBQ year around.
– He loved driving, trucks, tractors, combines, or anything on wheels. In later years, he had scooters
fondly called “Black Beauty” and the “Red Rocket”. He would “ride the wind” on Red Deer’s trail
system to attend the Farmer’s Market and enjoyed being outside moving.
– Have van, will travel to every Junior B “Wheaties” game possible.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Cindy Peters (Dave Allison), and Shelly (Bruce)
Kelndorfer; his son, Bill (Denise) Peters Jr.; his grandchildren, Carly (Devon) Cowles, Lindsay (Brandon) Chodak, Aleze Peters, and Ayden Peters; and his great grandchildren, Avery Cowles, Reese Cowles, Austin Chodak and Bailey Chodak. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Betty Gall, and her family, as well as many other family members and dear friends. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Irene in 2022; his parents, Dunc and Jessie Peters and his brother, John ‘Jackie’. A Private Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bill’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com or to STARS at www.stars.ca. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
