Beverly Ann Berry (Gunther)
avril 12, 1941 — mars 6, 2025
Aged 83
Survived by her husband, Ronald Berry of 63 years. Daughters, Tracy (Gerry) Warren, Sue (Aden) Stewart and Jodi Berry (James Zolkavich). Grandchildren Becky (Bryan) Cornies, Megan and Justin Stewart and great grandchildren Avery and Grayson Cornies.
Her sisters Faye Taylor and Debbie Gunther-Hansen (Cliff) and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Beverley Ann was born to Emil and Audrey Gunther in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 12, 1941. Her childhood was spent in Saskatoon amongst too many Aunts and Uncles to name. Her older sister, Faye and she were involved in ice skating in their fancy costumes. No Olympics were in the cards for either of them. Her younger brother, Gilbert, was born and sadly, passed away far too young before her youngest sibling, Debbie, was born 11 years later.
During high school she met a young stud, named Ronald Berry who currently wears the same size pants as he did in high school. (A long-standing joke Bev loved to « share »). They dated and then married in July of 1961. Bev had her teaching certificate and taught Grade 4. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many nieces prom dresses. Tracy came along in 1963. She had to give up teaching at this point and then embarked on her successful tenure as the best stay at home Mum. Sue came along in 1965 and the family was finally complete when Jodi arrived in 1970. Her sewing projects switched to matching outfits for her girls and the best Barbie dresses and clothes EVER!
Bev was active with the Kinette Club of Saskatoon throughout her life and held the president title for a year. She developed her love for gardening and all things plant related even being known for hosting plant parties (she would have gone viral if YouTube was around). She could literally grow anything in a crack! Once the girls were old enough, she went back to work in retail at a consignment store (Touch of Class) and that inspired her to obtain her Realtor license and she proceeded to have a successful 20 year career.
She loved spending time at the Lakes (both Emma and Hepburn). Singing around the fire and playing the washboard or baking buns in a coal and wood stove. She knew how to have a good time. She was known to rake the forest and grow something anywhere there was dirt. She knew how to throw a party, usually at the last minute. She’d supply all the food, drinks, snacks and be the last one to bed with all the dishes done.
Bev retired from Real Estate and went to work at Bill’s House of Flowers on a casual basis because she loved that environment. Those girls kept her young and taught her to swear! She then spent time with her girls and grandkids. Teaching them all of her of her best traits although none of us could grow a sweet pea to save our lives. We will always remember her for her « Bevism’s »! Things like « you get what you pay for », the « Heineken remover » and « butterfly nets ». Ask around for clarification- there are more.
When Bev was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 56, she barely let it slow her down. She even resorted to kneading bread with her elbows and rarely ever complained or felt sorry for herself. It slowed her down, but she would still be found trimming her lawn with hand clippers! She gave us all a lesson in being stoic. She suffered a heart attack in 2009 and had complications after that but again, soldiered on. Everything progressed and there were no medications that worked for her and her health declined. The next health issue was COPD (even after quitting smoking for 28 years) and then dementia which eventually robbed everyone of her remarkable self. Dementia is a horrible disease that forces you to lose somebody twice. #f*ckdementia
We would like to thank everyone for her care at Stensrud Lodge. Thanks to Ron, Tracy, Debbie and Faye who spent time visiting over the last year (which was hard for anyone to see her fade away).
To honour her memory please raise a Coors light, eat a good sandwich, plant a yellow flower, love your family and sing like no one can hear you. Live everyday to your fullest. We will miss her.
If you wish to honour her otherwise, please choose a charity of your choice. A private friends and family service will be organised at a later date.
