Obituary of Bernard Alphonsus Cullinan
It is with much sadness but with an appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Bernard Alphonsus Cullinan of Saint John, cherished husband of Cathy Cullinan, announce his passing which occurred on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the Saint Jonn Regional Hospital. Born on February 20, 1943 in Saint John, he was a son of the late Frank and Annie (Walsh) Cullinan.
Bernard was born and raised in Saint John; he was the youngest of his large family. Graduating from Saint Mary’s University and University of New Brunswick Law Program, Bernard excelled and continued with his passion leading to a fulfilling career as a lawyer. He was known for his kind and generous nature, those who knew him will smile remembering his great sense of humour. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, special trips to Grand Manan, Fundy National Park, Halifax and Prince Edward Island and coffee with friends. Above all else, he was a loving husband, father and granddad. He and Cathy shared almost 52 years of love and happiness raising their family.
In addition to his wife, Bernard will be missed by his children, Sheryl, Tim (Krista), David and Heather; brothers, John (Estelle) and Donald (Nora); sister-in-law, Margaret; grandchildren, Charlotte, Madison and Nate; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence, Dr. Lewis (Rita), Frank (Barbara) and Gerald; sisters, Betty (Percy), Margaret (Vincent), Teresa (Dino) and Valerie (Ray).
The family would like to thank the First Responders and the ICU doctors and nurses for the special care provided to Bernard and his family.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Bernard’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
