Bernard David Kay, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on April 29, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born on July 25, 1948, to Harry and Phylis Kay in Toronto, Ontario. Bernard was a devoted husband to Shayla, a loving father to Rahel, a caring father-in-law to Rene, and a doting grandfather to River and Ronin. He was a brother to Barbara, and brother-in-law to Jack, and uncle to Kira, Rebecca, and Sean.
Bernard was a man of many passions. He dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding, earning a degree in chemistry and working as a chemist. His love for history and music was evident in every aspect of his life, and he found solace and joy in the study of Judaism, particularly in halachic law and Biblical Hebrew.
His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he found great fulfillment in deepening his understanding of Jewish traditions and teachings. Bernard’s wisdom and insight were a source of inspiration for those around him, and his love for learning was infectious.
Bernard will be remembered for his passionate spirit and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a pillar of strength and support for those he loved, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical team at North York General Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Bernard’s illness.
Bernard’s legacy of love, wisdom, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing and may he rest in peace.
