Obituary of Barry Percival Whittaker
It is with great sadness and pride for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Barry Percival Whittaker aged 95 years of age in Waterloo, Ontario, the beloved husband of Marilyn Whittaker. He passed away on March 14, 2025 after an extended illness.
Barry was born on Dec. 21, 1929 in Blackpool, England the youngest of 4 children. He married his partner in life, Marilyn Cottrell on April 2, 1956 in England. They were approaching their 69th wedding anniversary. Barry was a loving father to Patricia (Mike) Wright, Paul (Linda) Whittaker and Justin (Barbara) Whittaker. He was also a proud grandfather to Stephanie and Andrew.
Barry devoted his life to Christian ministry and was an ordained minister with the Anglican church for many years. Barry and Marilyn immigrated to Canada in November, 1960. He led parishes in Windsor, London and St. Thomas, Ontario. Barry left the full-time ministry to become a career counsellor at Fanshawe College, London, Ontario. He had many interests and talents. He was a gifted speaker and he frequently wrote articles for the London Free Press on current political and religious topics. During his life, Barry gave many years of service to his family, the community and to his Christian faith.
The Whittaker family would like to thank the staff at Parkwood Mennonite Seniors Community in Waterloo for the exceptional care Barry received over the past few years. Their kindness and support are greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held at the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00 am with Reverend Cerena Browne officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations in Barry’s memory to Trinity Evangelical Missionary Church, Waterloo may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com
