Arnold Kratz Obituary
Arnold Kratz, a remarkable man known for his loving heart, steadfast faith, and dedication to serving others, went to be with his Lord at the age of 84 on February 21, 2025. Born in Poland, his journey was one of perseverance and grace—a journey that saw him traverse continents and dedicate his life to family, ministry, and community.
In 1950, Arnold, along with his parents and two brothers, emigrated from Germany and settled in Nokomis, Saskatchewan. His early life was marked by the challenges of adapting to a new land and learning a new language; despite these obstacles, his resilient spirit shone through. At age 16, he began his career with the Canadian National Railway, where he worked for 36 years in various capacities, ultimately serving as a Human Resources Officer until 1993.
His passion for Christ was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a very dedicated church member of Evangel Chapel serving for many years as a Board Member, youth and adult Sunday School teacher, and various leadership roles in the church. His desire to serve, led him to pursue fulltime pastoral ministry. He received a diploma in Theology from the Pentecostal Correspondence College in 1996 and was ordained in 1998. He dedicated 15 years to pastoring at Bethel Church in MacGregor, Manitoba—a calling he embraced wholeheartedly until his retirement from ministry in 2008. His devotion to his faith and his congregation made him a respected minister, particularly within the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.
Arnold married the love of his life, Gail, on July 3, 1965, beginning a 59-year marriage filled with love, faith, and shared adventures. Together, they raised three children—Vernon (with Heidi), Perry (with Cindy), and Heather (with Tim)—instilling in them values of compassion and service. Their legacy of love extended to a devoted circle of grandchildren—Evan (with Lynelle), Victoria (with Zachary), Cameron (with Hailey), Caleb, Noah, and Ana—as well as three cherished great-grandchildren: Jude, Elias, and Maverick.
Arnold’s zest for life extended far beyond his career and ministry. Passionate about community involvement, he often volunteered at polling stations during elections. Arnold was an avid coin collector, enthusiastic gardener, and proud member of the Nash Metropolitan Car Club. He cherished every moment spent at the cottage he built at Manhattan Beach Camp. His adventurous spirit carried him across Canada and on journeys to Israel and Brazil—all with his family by his side. Among his many talents, he is fondly remembered for his surprising acting role as the general manager in the Gordie Howe movie filmed in Portage.
His life was a testament to selfless service. Whether through his professional work, his dedicated ministry, or his community involvement, Arnold consistently went out of his way to help others. His caring and patient nature made him not only a respected leader but also a cherished friend to many, and his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
Arnold was predeceased by many beloved family members. Among those who passed before him were his wife, Gail Kratz; his parents, Edmund and Wanda Kratz; his brothers, Edmund and Alfred Kratz; his stepmother, Ethel Kratz; his stepsiblings, Lanny and Patsy; and his stepbrother-in-law, Wilmer.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Sandy Kratz; his nephews, Geoff and Trevor, along with their families; his stepsisters, Marilyn (Wally) Burnett and Myrtle Mack; his stepbrother-in-law, Don Urban; and his stepsister-in-law, Martha Wiebe; and by the enduring love of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Arnold’s remarkable life will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 2:30 pm at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in MacGregor, Manitoba. Viewing at 2:00 pm. Lunch and interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre.
« I was born in Poland, lived in Germany, came to Canada,
and I am heading for a city whose builder and maker is God. »
