Ardith Ann Clark, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went
home peacefully to be with the Lord on April 27, 2025. She was 91
years old.
Born in Upper Gagetown, NB, Ardith’s unwavering
love for God and her family defined a well-lived life filled with
faith, hope, and love. In 1934, she moved to Fredericton, a place she
would call home for the majority of her life, graduating from
Fredericton High school in 1950 and FHS Special Commercial in 1951.
Following graduation, she worked as Secretary for the Provincial
Government Civil Service Commission.
Ardith was a very active and devoted member of the
Fredericton Reformed Baptist Church (now Journey Church) and became
organist there at a very young age. Her musical giftings also led her
to perform as a pianist with The Gospelaires for a time at the
beginning of their ministry. She loved God and her church and served
both faithfully.
In 1953, she married the love of her life, Albert D. Clark,
and the couple settled in Marysville, Ardith working as Secretary in
the office of Canadian Cottons Ltd. in Marysville, until the closure
of the mill. Later, she worked as Secretary at the radio station CFNB,
the Provincial Government Executive Council, and the Department of
Tourism. She was an active member of Olivet Wesleyan Church (now
Crosspoint Church) teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and
becoming involved in the ladies’ ministry. She then became a
partner with Albert in forming a construction company, and the couple
moved to Beulah Camp, in Brown’s Flat, NB, to restore and
renovate their beloved church campground; they remained at Beulah Camp
for 26 years.
Beulah Camp was a special place for Ardith and Albert long
before their tenure as residents. For many summers, they enjoyed their
cottage at the campground along the St. John River with their three
children.
Ardith’s secretarial experience informed both her
professional work and service to the church. For many years, she
served as Secretary for the Wesleyan Women International Atlantic
District. Later, the couple helped start River Valley Wesleyan Church
in Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, where they became charter members and made
many dear, lifelong friends. Again, Ardith used her secretarial
experience and served as Secretary of the church while teaching Sunday
School, establishing ladies’ ministry work for the community
and overseas missions, and leading a Bible Study for years. She also
enjoyed public speaking opportunities in churches and
women’s groups in Fredericton, Saint John, and Grand
Bay-Westfield. Upon the couple’s return to Fredericton, she
and Albert found a church home once again at Journey Church, the
church of Ardith’s youth, and became active in the
seniors’ activities.
Married for 72 years, Ardith and Albert loved to travel and
enjoyed several trips across Canada, the U.S., and Europe to visit
with family and friends.
Ardith was a very loving and devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught her children to love
God and keep their faith in Him. She will be greatly missed by her
three children—sons Dr. David A. Clark (Dr. Nancy
Nason-Clark) and Wayne Clark (Nora), and daughter Marilyn Ward (Dr.
Tom Ward)—as well as her dearly loved and adored
grandchildren—grandsons Lucas Clark (Dr. Amanda Clark),
Spencer Clark (Alexandra), and Alex Ward, and granddaughters Purdy
MacPherson (Jeff), Natascha Fitch (Jaron), Christina Clark (Sean
Aubé), and Jennifer Cooke (Brian)—and
great-grandchildren Evelyn MacPherson, Emmett Clark, Aeris Fitch,
Alister Fitch, Eleanor Aubé, Dorothy Aubé and
Logan Cooke. She is also survived by her brother Wayne Cliff (Norma)
and several nieces and nephews.
Ardith was predeceased by her parents, George Frederick and
Martha Amanda (Barr) Cliff; brother Edison Cliff; sisters Glenna
Woodworth, Marion Mitchell, Eileen Cliff, and Inez Cliff;
sister-in-law Jean Cliff; and brothers-in-law Lynwood Woodworth and
Millard Mitchell.
Visitation and memorial service will be held at Journey
Church in Fredericton on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Visitation will begin
at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00.
Ardith will be laid to rest beside her beloved Albert at 3:00
at Browns Flat Baptist Cemetery.
Donations in Ardith’s honor may be made to Journey
Church (Fredericton, NB) and Kingswood University (Sus,
NB).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s
Funeral Home.
