Elizabeth was called to God on January 11, 2025. She is predeceased by Alwyn, her beloved husband of 61 years.
She is survived by her sons and daughters Grant, Tracy, and her husband, Carl Nelson, Jillian and her husband David McDougall and proud grandmother to Emily (fiancé Brad Schaefer), Carlie and Eli McDougall.
Predeceased by her parents, David John and Agnes Jane Grant and brothers Alan, Leslie and Sydney Grant and her sister, Florence Gillis.
She is mourned by her sisters, Joan, Norma, Marjorie, Francis, and Brenda.
Born in 1938 in Northern Ireland, Elizabeth came to Canada in 1958 where she began work in the accounts department for Eatons in downtown Toronto and later The Bank of Commerce.
She and Alwyn were married in 1960. Elizabeth ran a furniture and decor business for several years in Fergus, Ontario, where the whole family worked together. She and Alwyn moved to Port Sydney to be closer to their grandchildren in 2009.
Elizabeth was a devout Christian, was an active member at Bethel Baptist Church in Fergus, Ontario, where she served as leader to the Pioneer Girls Club and Women’s ministry, and later, at Faith Baptist in Huntsville.
She will be missed by members of her community who described her as such a caring and lovely woman, full of class, and gracious to all.
She was greatly looking forward to her granddaughter Emily’s wedding in May and will be deeply missed from the celebration.
Elizabeth will be sorely missed by her family who all saw her as their pillar of strength and foundation of faith and family values. We take comfort that she now is with the Lord.
All family and friends are warmly welcome to a drop-in reception in honour of Elizabeth, in the main foyer at Faith Baptist Church on Sunday January 19, from 3-5pm.
