Obituary of Annie « Anne » Katherine Kominek
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Anne Kominek (née Gazarek), who lived a long and fulfilling life of 95 years. Born on January 10, 1930, in Harwich Township, Kent County, Anne was the cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Gazarek. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Martin (Frances) Gazarek and Tony (Blanche) Gazarek.
Anne married Joseph Kominek (predeceased 2013) on November 17, 1951, and together they raised four children: Joe (Liz), Gerry (Leslie, Cathy predeceased), Helen (predeceased), and Mary Anne (Chris).
Anne was a proud grandmother to Derek (Amy) Kominek, Karyn (Darren) Kuni, Jennifer (Sam) Wall, Melissa (Jordan) Cuneo, and Alexandria Kominek. She cherished the time she spent with them, lovingly preserving their memories in scrapbooks—a true testament to her pride. She was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Brayden, Connor, and Hannah Kominek; Hudson, Shane, and Lauryn Kuni; Jake, Maya, and Brock Wall; and Corbin, Ainsley, and Lilah Cuneo, who always made her smile when they visited.
For over 50 years, Anne and Joe built their life together on the third concession of Camden Gore, where they farmed, cultivating abundant crops of tomatoes and beans. Anne’s passion extended to her bountiful garden, from which she canned and froze countless fruits and vegetables.
Anne had a talent for crocheting, creating beautiful Afghans for her children and grandchildren, each stitch filled with love. Deeply proud of her Czech heritage, she enjoyed preparing delicious traditional family recipes like Rohliky, Czech chicken and dumplings for countless family gatherings.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Anne was a devoted member of the St Michael’s Catholic Women’s League for 70 years. She was also parish secretary for St Michael’s church for over 30 years.
Anne’s legacy of faith, family, and hard work will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
