Angus’ Obituary
Angus Eugene Blake
(1953 – 2025)
Passed away suddenly at the Health Science Centre on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, Angus Eugene Blake of Port de Grave – Age 71 years.
Predeceased by his parents: Silas and Maria; sister Melvina; brother Nelson; and nephew Phillip.
Leaving to mourn his wife Nora; children: Stephanie (Cory), Eugene (Susanne), Crystal (Hulute’), and Christopher (Danielle); grandchildren: Logan, Jaced, Dylan, Jaden, Gavin, Aaliyah, Adrielle, Aaron, Andrew and David; brother Wilburt (Lily) and sister Hazel (Leonard).Angus Eugene Blake was born on December 16, 1953 to Silas and Maria Blake. He was always called Angus or Gus, and would make it known, “I’m not Mr. Blake!” He married the love of his life, and his world, Nora Gwendolyn Ralph on March 13, 1976. They met, married and made their first home in Scarborough, ON, but after the birth of their first born child (Stephanie), in the spring of ‘79 decided it was time to make a new home on the Harbour Hills in Port de Grave, NL. Here they were blessed with, and raised three more children (Eugene, Crystal, Christopher).
Angus was a Mighty Man in Stature, who worked hard to provide for his family. Although he spent some time in the fishery with Nora’s father and brothers, he soon returned to his love of upholstery. He enjoyed working on the road, upholstering fishing vessels where he could prank his co-workers, but his favorite place to be was in his own basement, often full of furniture, working with his big hands to provide for his family. More importantly, he was a Mighty Man in Love and Faith, which paired perfectly with his love of teaching the word of God. He believed with all his heart the scripture “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). He took his job as Sunday School Teacher very seriously, and would weekly lock himself away in his study to prepare his lessons. His many years of involvement in children’s programs, on Sunday or mid-week, has reached and impacted generations of children.
His love for teaching could only be surpassed by being surrounded by his family, and especially his grandchildren. He was never more content than when his house was full and loud with the sounds of grandchildren playing. He thought the world of them, and often took the opportunity to tell them.
He will be sorely missed by all – Till we meet again!
Well done thy good and faithful servant, thy work on earth is done!
