Ambrose Lewis Obituary
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ambrose Joseph Lewis, announce his passing at the age of 81 on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his sons by his side. Ambrose was born in Ball’s Creek, NS on May 27, 1943, and was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Hurd) Lewis.
Dad married the love of his life, Patricia (Keigan) on a stormy, wintery day on April 4, 1964. They had four boys within eight years. Dad was a humble, hard-working man who provided for his family. He was proud to be a Red Seal welder for over 40 years and worked tirelessly across Canada and the United States to support his family and ensure they had everything they needed.
Dad was a kind gentleman who loved a great joke. He was an amazing story teller, didn’t miss a detail and enjoyed reminiscing about the “good ole days”. Ambrose liked a good game of cards, especially cribbage. He and Patsy would spend many evenings playing crib at the kitchen table with a cup of tea and a homemade tea biscuit. In his younger years, Ambrose learned how to play the fiddle and listened to Celtic music every day. He was an avid harness racing enthusiast, and he owned and raced Standardbred horses throughout the years. He was an outdoorsman, loved his vegetable gardens and was ever so proud of his perfectly weeded garden.
Ambrose is survived by his loving sons, Kenneth (Korena), Joseph (Carol), Kent (Wendy) and Scott; his cherished six grandchildren Jonathan, Natasha (Cody), Tyler, Marissa, Stephanie and Brett; great grandchildren Jensen, Kane and Deacon. They will miss Poppy’s warm hugs and fist bumps. He treasured every moment he spent with his loved ones and appreciated family visits. Also surviving are his sisters; Marjorie (Billy) MacInnis, Hazel (Wilfred) Hart, Diane (Larry) Gould, and his brother; Jimmy (Janet) Lewis along with several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ambrose was predeceased by his beautiful wife Patsy of 60 years, his parents, his father and mother-in-law Norman and Lexie (MacKinnon) Keigan, brothers; Charles (Lorraine), Billy (Sylvia), sisters; Edie (Frank) Smith and Lorraine (Junior) MacDonald.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Harbourstone Enhanced Care- Irish Cove for making dad feel so at home over the last several months. Also, the family would like to express our gratitude to the EHS and paramedics, Dr. Rose McKay and the nursing team at the Emergency Room department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care, compassion and support you provided during this difficult time.
Dad, although losing you brought us pain, we take comfort in knowing that you and mom are together again.
A visitation for Ambrose will be held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at W.J Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, Leitches Creek with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
