August 8, 1943 – January 12, 2025
After a lengthy illness, Alan passed away peacefully at Matthews House Hospice.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Diane Hill, sons Mike (Tracy), Mark (T.C.). Beloved Popa of Tom, Hannah (Alroy) and Heather (A.J.) Loved Great-Grandfather of Alice, Addison, and Raya. Brother of Peter (Kathy) Hill, nephew Dan.
Alan was born in Bath, England and emigrated to Canada in 1952 with his family to Hawkestone, Ontario, where he had many friends, including Bill & Dorothy Moore. Alan & Eleanor were married May 1, 1965 in Ivy Presbyterian Church, and settled in Orillia, then Midland. In 1970, Alan and family moved to Alliston. Alan worked at the Alliston Red & White Grocery Store, Westbank Fruit Market, Alliston IGA and Baxter Corporation. After retirement Dad was a crossing guard in the Town of Alliston for a couple years. Alan was a proud Allistonian and proud supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Alliston Hornets Hockey Club.
Sincere thanks to the staff at Matthews House Hospice for their wonderful care, the staff at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, the Nursing staff of St. Elizabeth (Rupol and Dee) , PSW Cindy Williams, and Kim who helps us at home.
Special thanks to Rev. Jane Archer and Rev. Sarah Stockford for prayers and comfort.
Cremation has taken place. A committal service for family and friends will be held this spring at Ivy Presbyterian Church.
