Alan Robert Fisher passed away peacefully at Owen Sound Hospital on Saturday February 8, 2025. He was 86.
Alan was born in Hanover on August 28, 1938, to the late Elmer and Josie (nee Vath) Fisher. He attended Holy Family School and Hanover District High School. Upon graduation Alan worked for Royal Bank of Canada and then joined Richardson Bond and Wright for 35 years until retirement. Alan met the love of his life, Irene, and married in 1963. During their nearly 60 years of marriage, they spent their time travelling, pursuing hobbies and caring for one another.
Alan is survived by loving brother Donald Fisher of Arizona; Nieces and Nephews John Fisher, Jan Fisher, Robert Fisher; Bruce Lewis-Watts, Nancy Lewis-Watts and Richard Lewis-Watts.
Predeceased by Wife Irene Fisher (nee Kurz), Sister Marilyn Lewis-Watts, Sister-in-Law Donna Fisher (nee Schinbein), Parents Elmer and Josephine Fisher (nee Vath), niece Carol Fisher.
Alan always prided himself on his years spent serving his community. Alan was elected to Hanover Town Council for 2 terms and then elected mayor of Hanover for 4 consecutive terms. During those 8 years, he served on the Hanover Police Commission as well as the Public Utilities Commission. After his term as mayor, he spent 25 years as a member of the hospital board, serving 2 terms as Chair. During that time, he was also the founding Chair of the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation, serving for 5 years. Alan was president of the Hanover Legion for 3 terms. He had a lifelong interest in aviation, was instrumental in developing the Saugeen Airport, and owned and flew his own aircraft for 35 years.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place with inurnment to follow in Hanover Cemetery.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Saugeen Municipal Airport from 2-5 pm.
Memorial donations to the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
