Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Al Van de Mosselaer, in Oakville, on February 28, 2025.
Al did all that he wanted to do and more. He emigrated to Canada from the Netherlands as a boy. Al was a banker by profession but in his spare time he was a great gardener, painter, roofer, arborist, botanist, electrician, tax man, conversationalist and friend.
By far, his most important job was being a family man. He was married to Lorna for 56 years. They met when he was 16 and she was 14 at a dance. They married and enjoyed taking cruises, family vacations, and caring for their family dogs. They moved for work, from Winnipeg to Edmonton, then Montreal and finally to Oakville, where they made their forever home and lived there for the past 38 years.
As a father Al devoted his time to his children Kari and Chris. He volunteered much of his spare time coaching soccer and being a part of his children’s teams, activities and events. Al travelled to swim meets all over Ontario to watch Kari race. He even travelled to away tournaments with Chris and his men’s soccer team-which we all know might not be the best place for a “father”.
He was Grandpa to Kynsie, Ceira, and Carley, and grand dog Winston. He was dedicated to attending their sports games and made a special effort to have numerous heart to heart conversations with them. No Matter how old the girls were, he would make a sincere effort to relate to them.
As one of 13 children, he enjoyed attending a good Van de Mosselaer party. He was a regular at holiday gatherings, including those with his sister-in-law Kath and her family.
A diehard Winnipeg sports fan, he could not turn down an opportunity to watch a Blue Bombers game. You could always see his smile and hear his keen wit and humour. He was generous with his time, and made sure to keep in touch with the family. He was genuinely interested in hearing everyone’s news.
It is obvious that he touched many lives throughout his 78 years. He will be greatly missed by all, especially Lorna, Kari (Nick) and Chris (Caroline).
A Celebration of Life is planned for the summer where friends and family will be invited to remember Al.
