It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of our mother, Bernice Elaine
Rushton, 90 years of Springhill, on Monday, March 10,
2025.
Born in Springhill, NS, she was a
daughter of the late John T. Lowther and the late Hazel M. (Nelson)
Lowther.
Bernice filled her early years with love
and an unwavering dedication to her family as a stay at home
mom. Once her children were grown she worked many
years, as a Personal Care Worker at MacAloney’s Nursing
Home. Upon retirement, she gave countless hours of her time
volunteering at the Springhill Legion and the Salvation Army where she
bonded with her very special friends, Minnie, Dave, and
Bev.
In addition to the dedication she gave
to her family, she had a profound love for animals, whether it was her
dogs, cats, or any creature, Bernice always opened her heart and home
to them.
Bernice had an infectious passion for
playing Bingo, whether it was from the comfort of her home or miles
away from home, she was always in pursuit of that next big
jackpot. She was also known to play the odd game of cards
including Rummoli.
Bernice leaves behind a legacy of love,
kindness, and joy and will be deeply missed by her children, Joanne
(Ken), Moncton, NB, Billy (Debbie), Joseph (Heather), and Cathy
(Kevin), all of Springhill, NS; grandchildren, Jamie
(Jennifer), Cory, Stephanie (Steve), Jonathan (Tessa), Joseph
(Ashley), Lacey (Ryan), Jenna (Tyler), and 13 great
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband
Joseph W. « Joe » Rushton; a daughter in infancy; sister,
Beverly Bourgeois.
Arrangements are under the care and
direction of the A. H. Brown Funeral
Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). A
graveside service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery at a later
date.
