It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Eileen Corkum-Himmelman (77) of East Lahave, NS, who left us peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.
Ruth lived a life filled with kindness, generosity and an unshakable devotion to family, friends and community. Ruth shared a beautiful life with her devoted and loving husband Franklin Himmelman, building a home filled with laughter, adventure and unwavering support. Ruth had an innate curiosity and a love for History, one which she shared with her grandson Callum Corkum. Ruth was passionate about genealogy, always eager to trace the roots of her family and preserve their stories for future generations.
She began her career as a teacher but chose to dedicate herself to raising her two beloved sons Brain (Elizabeth Fraser) Corkum and Ian (Liz, Callum) Corkum, providing them with a home filled with warmth, wisdom and encouragement.
In the life she built with Franklin, Ruth gained family who she thought of as her own. Crystal Himmelman-Leung, Tony Leung, Ian Doucet and Kevin Himmelman were very much part of her loving circle.
Later, Ruth continued her lifelong commitment to caring for others by working as a PCW at Harbor View Haven in Lunenburg, NS, where her compassion and dedication touched many lives. She was an active member in the Zion Lutheran Church also in Lunenburg, NS. Ruth was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Ruth found true joy being in nature which was something she shared with her eldest son Brian. She was always active and enjoyed boat rides to the islands off Lahave River with him and his partner Elizabeth. Ruth spent many summers kayaking, hiking and swimming. She also could be found at the soccer field cheering on, first her son Ian and then her grandson Callum. She found great joy in watching any sporting event her family was involved in. Each morning you could find Ruth at EmOcean Wellness Centre participating in water Tabata. She cherished this time being active and spending it with her “pool buddies” with whom she shared many laughs.
Ruth was predeceased by her father Eric Emeneau, her mother Jean Emeneau, sister Sylvia Emeneau and first husband Rodney Corkum. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has left this world, her kindness, love and the stories she shared will live on.
Funeral arrangements are under the directions of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy 3, Lunenburg. Ruth’s funeral and reception will take place on March 15, 2025 at 2:00 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lunenburg. A burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice in her memory.
