Robie Ira Woodworth
1941-2025
It is with great
sadness that the family of Robie Ira Woodworth, 83, of Canning,
announce his unexpected passing on Monday, February 17, 2025. Born in
Arlington, he was the son of the late Corporal Hugh Woodworth and
Georgia (Rand) Sheffield.
Robie served with the
Royal Canadian Armed Forces from 1959 to 1992. After military
retirement, Robie was a dedicated beef farmer in the Canning area for
many years. He was a member of the Canning Royal Canadian Legion
Habitant Branch No.73.
Robie was raised by
Nan and Pup (his grandparents) on a beef farm. He helped Pup raise
livestock and learned how to fix all that breaks during farming
operations. At the same time, Robie watched Nan raise and mentor
countless foster children, underscoring the importance of family. As a
teenager, Robie played pond hockey, rode his saddlehorse, sped across
the dyke in « souped up » cars, and learned the art of
storytelling.
As a young man, Robie
stepped off into the big world, joining the Canadian Guards in
Petawawa. He knew he needed his longtime love, Faith, by his
side and promptly asked for her hand in marriage. Together
they travelled and worked across Canada and abroad for 35 years,
raising a family of their own.
After his military
career, Robie returned to Canning where he and Faith reunited with
their childhood friends. Robie pursued his passions of
farming, motorcycles, hunting, fiddling, and fishing; and yes, he also
told a few stories.
Robie is survived by
his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Faith (Kynock)
Woodworth; their son, Dana (Shannon) Woodworth, Sunnybrook, AB;
daughter-in-law, Janet Woodworth, Habitant; grandchildren, Amanda
Woodworth (Shawn Lyons), Kingsport; Holly Woodworth, Dartmouth; Sarah
(Kevin) McCreath, Stony Plain, AB; and Rachelle (Tayor) Read, Stony
Plain, AB; great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Griffin Lyonsworth, Abby
and Penny McCreath, and Hunter and Piper Read. Robie is also survived
by his half siblings, Tena Sheffield, Randy (Linda) Sheffield, and
Cindy (Robert) Harnish; as well as his foster siblings, Barb (Bill)
Graves, Cheryl (Dexter) Brown, and Marjorie (Harry)
Pinch.
Robie was predeceased
by his parents. His father died in action at Monte Cassino during
World War II and Robie was subsequently raised by his maternal
grandparents, Edward and Mildred Rand (Nan and Pup). In addition, he
was predeceased by his son, Robert « Bob » « Woody »
Woodworth (2023), infant daughter Donna Lori, infant sister Joan,
stepfather Lawson Sheffield, half-brothers Michael and Bev Sheffield,
and foster sister Sue (David) Whalen.
Cremation has taken
place and by request there will be no visitation. A combined funeral
and legion service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3 in
the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, with reception to follow.
Donations in memory may be made to Canning and Area Food Bank or a
charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
