It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ada Lou Watson, who peacefully left us on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 96. She was the beloved wife of the late Lowell Watson, and the cherished mother of Alanna (Jim) Mozel, Karen (Ken) Wheeler, Grant Watson, Mark “Gordo” Watson, and Graham Watson.
Ada Lou was born in Regina, SK, on September 1, 1928, the eldest of three children to Muir Barber and Hildred (Ingram) Barber. She spent her early years in Regina Beach, where she formed lifelong connections that reflected her vibrant and compassionate spirit. She was an active member of the Regina Beach United Church congregation, the local Art Guild, lifetime member of the Regina Beach Yacht Club, the local Arts and Crafts Association, and the second woman to register with the Saskatchewan Association of Architects.
Ada Lou was a woman of great achievements and curiosity. After earning her Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Manitoba in 1950, she carved out a remarkable career in a field often dominated by men, designing many projects in the Regina Beach area.
In 1952, Ada Lou married Lowell Watson, beginning a life filled with love, travel, and shared passions. Together, they journeyed around the world, with one notable adventure in 1986 where they flew into Kathmandu, Nepal, and traveled through India, Pakistan, and the Middle East and Europe, during the same year as the Chernobyl disaster.
Her love of adventure extended to sports, and she was an active member of the Regina Masters Swimming Club. In 2009, Ada Lou competed at the World Masters Swimming Championships in Sydney, Australia. There, she earned multiple accolades, including 3rd in the 50M backstroke, and 4th in both the 100M backstroke and 200M backstroke. Her commitment to excellence in swimming was a testament to her indomitable will and dedication.
Ada Lou’s life was marked by her strong family bonds. She is predeceased by husband Lowell Watson; brothers Lloyd and Lorne « Icky » Barber; sons Grant, Mark « Gordo, » and Graham; and great-granddaughter Serenity Carrier.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Alanna (Jim) Mozel, her daughter Karen (Ken) Wheeler, grand-daughter Kara (Sean) Carrier, grandson James (Janessa) Wheeler, great-granddaughter Chae Wheeler-Carrier, and great-grandson Remington Carrier, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Ada Lou’s life will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her memory.
Ada Lou’s legacy of strength, love, and passion for life will continue to inspire those who knew her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
