Fredrick Lester Rowley, 72 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at his home in Tisdale.
Fred was born May 23, 1952 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan the oldest of 6 children born to Lester Thomas Rowley and Verna Pauline Rowley (nee Stegman). Fred went to school in Eldersley and Tisdale. In 1971 he moved to Savona, BC where his Grandma Rose Gagnon lived. He worked at the CNR. He returned to Tisdale in 1973 where he met Sharon Louise Hassard from Mistatim. They married in 1974 and Donna Lee Rowley was born in 1975. They helped on the family farm for a few years but Fred wanted to get back to BC. He took his family there in 1977 and he worked in the logging industry in several places over the next 10 years. In 1987, Sharon and Fred separated.
Fred and Rosemary Lillian Wetherup met in 1990 and they made a home in Princeton, BC with their daughter Tiffany Paulina Rose Rowley, born in 1992. Fred built a small greenhouse and they had peacocks, pigeons and even a goat, briefly. When Fred and Rosie separated, he went back to Tisdale for awhile but returned to Rock Creek where he was able to live nearer to Tiffany. He met Rosalee Hopps in Rock Creek and they made a home together.
The Tisdale life called Fred back to his roots in 2008 and Rosalee came with him for several years until she returned to BC to care for family. Fred stayed in Tisdale, his final spot, always to dream of BC but not to return. In Tisdale he was able to be closer to his mom and Donna and get to know his grandchildren Brooke Chantal Rowley and Dayton Fredrick Robert Lukinchuk. Tiffany also came to Tisdale in 2015 so for several years he had all of his family close by.
He worked at the Co-op Home Centre for 9 years before his retirement in 2017.
He really enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He spent his free time and retirement years renovating his little house in Tisdale, spending time at the family farm and in the garden or at the greenhouse with his mom, camping out at Donna’s hobby farm, hanging out with probably the only dog he ever liked, Willow, taking care of the chickens, turkeys and pigs. Fred appreciated the wonders of the world. Tiffany and Fred watched thunderstorms together from the greenhouse in Princeton. Fred liked to drive all the back roads and check the progress of the farms around Tisdale. In BC he loved the small logging roads up the mountains to hidden waterfalls and springs.
Fred loved to read and learn about a variety of topics. He liked to teach his grandchildren, give advice, inspect their work and quiz them, then teach them some more! He taught them a variety of unusual topics that caught his attention or he felt they should know just in case! Many nights were spent with Donna’s family watching documentaries all night. He enjoyed the quiet times, never fond of a big crowd or a busy place. In the winter he enjoyed a jigsaw puzzle.
Fred is survived by his daughter Donna Rowley (Ron Lukinchuk) and grandchildren Brooke Rowley (Brandon Abbott) and Dayton Lukinchuk as well as his daughter Tiffany Rowley (Matt Osterud). He is also survived by siblings Art Rowley, Karen Kerr, Kathy McGaffin (Stan) and Lorraine Beeching (Walter). He is pre-deceased by his father Lester Rowley (1992), spouse Sharon Rowley (2007), brother Kevin Rowley (2012), spouse Rosie Wetherup (2014) and mother Verna Rowley (2019).
At Fred’s request we will not hold a funeral service. He has asked for his ashes to be divided between his two favorite spots one at the family farm and one in his beloved BC. If you wish, monetary donations can be made to the Tisdale Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
